36.5 weeks and whole body itches! HELP!!!!?
Well like i said I am 36.5 weeks tomorrow and for WEEKS now I have bene so itchy. I chalked it up to my stratching skin and the fact that I live in Utah...(The weather is cold then warm then cold then warm and can cause really bad dry skin) but over the last week it has gotten unbearable. IT ITCHES EVERYWHERE!!! I have scratch marks all over my body because of how much I itch. I have changed laundry soap, used benadryl, tried every lotion, cream and moisterizer I could think of and I am at a loss! I have a Dr. APPT. at 2pm tomorrow but in the meantime I am losing sleep and need suggestions! WHAT IS THIS AND HOW DO I GET IT TO STOP!! THANK YOU! :)
sorry I meant 36.5 weeks pregnant. :)

wow, you just might be one of the three in one million pregnant women who are "allergic to your pregnancy" the medical term for this rash you describe is abbreviated called P.U.P.P.S. which stands for sum long crazy word i cant pronounce. when i was about a week prior to having my first daughter, i started itching, everywhere i soaked in oatmeal, i went to dr. they gave me atavan (a antihistimine ) they suspected hives or my nerves were bad. i didn't sleep for days!! finally two days before my due date and i was gonna go insane scratching. my mother, god rest her soul, had finally gone to the local drug store in the middle of the night and come home with every can of jock itch aerosol spray they had in stock! that was the only thing that would safely hold the itch at bay. I had enough i was miserable so i went into er, and they decided to induce me becuz i was slightly dilated anyway. well lo and behold the pytocin or whatever they inject into the iv to trigger labor magically started to relieve the rash(which by this time had covered my entire body, palms, bottoms of feet, butt crack everywhere!). come to find out i had a rare rash and all these dr.s came into my room and took pictures of the remaining rash for medical books seeing as they hardly ever saw any occurrences of this particular allergy

A: It could be something you ate, that you're allergic to... I broke out in itch red bumps all over my body when I had an allergic reaction to something i ate (mangoes - years ago) and more recently - whenever I drink 4 or more shots of alcohol. Possible food culprits: Seafood, chicken (rare), mangoes (possibly any kind of tropical fruit), nuts, alcohol B: You might have a form of eczema (or skin allergy/ HIVES). If this is what you think you have... This does not go away forever, it had dormant stages where you won't have a breakout, and stages where it will bother the hell out of you. Treatment: 1. Allergy medication (benadryl, claritin, generic brands work too, anything with antihistamine, this pink cream ointment by Aveeno worked well too - smelled funny but works) Note: Steroids like Hydrocortisone (the #1 itch cream out there) does not work to combat this skin allergy! It is useless with hives. 2. Try to figure out what's causing the rashes and stay away from it. (note: you may never find what's truly behind it since many environmental factors can trigger the skin allergy attacks. eg: cold weather, dust, chemicals, food, sweat, etc) My experience with hives: In my 2nd year of college, I moved into my own apartment, I had full blown allergy attacks all over my body! I couldn't figure out what was going on until I went to a doctor and had it checked. They diagnosed it as a form of hives and referred me to see a dermatologist to get a better idea of my situation. However, I was a broke college student (and still am) and can't afford to see a dermatologist (not covered by UC insurance)....So I stuck with the allergy medication and tried to keep myself as clean/protected as ever. After I moved to a different apartment, my allergy attacks stopped (probably something in the old apartment was the culprit), and it's back to being mild, only here and there when my skin is irritated. I hope this helped!

Well, one thing that causes itching that can't be relieved by any cream is bile buildup. If you have an obstruction to your bile outflow, the bile acids get deposited in the skin and itch like crazy. If you google bile and itching you'll get info on a lot of serious diseases, but it may just be something to do with your pregnancy. Try not to get too worked up about it but I'd definitely mention it the next time you see your Dr. Look up "intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy"
