Prices of Rapid Protyping?

Hello,

Just out of curiosity...

I have a 3D drawing of an machine that I would like a model off.... does anyone out there know how much 'Rapid Prototyping' or 3D printing would cost (in the UK) for say, a piece 12" long, 3" wide and 4" high. I'm not at the stage with the drawing and process to get real quotes - just after a budget price for now (or a rough guess!)

The company I work for has a rapid prototype machine. I can tell you that my in house charge for a 4x4x 3/8 (inch) sized part was roughly $200-$300US. Far cheaper than the $2000US quote to have our machine shop mill it from aluminum and machine the details.

The price depended upon the type of resin, the volume and size of the part. The size determines how long the machine will be occupied and the volume determines raw material costs.
