I see you're in the UK.

The official line is you SHOULD carry it whilst driving, but you are given seven days to produce it if you haven't got it with you.

A police officer doesn't have to give you a producer (HO/RT/1), merely telling you to produce it is sufficient.

If you're not carrying your licence and commit an offence, you can be arrested under Sec 25 PACE for verification of your name and address. This one is often used by savvy officers who need to get somebody off the streets for whatever reason.

    No

The police can check on their computer all they need to know about license insurance tax mot etc.

All they do if required is provide you with a ticket ( producer) you then take that in with your license and paper work to the police station within 7 days of the ticket issue.

I have never carried my license for about 20 years.

If stopped the police will normally give a notice to produce your documents at police station you nominate within 7 days. ( That's unless something has changed I don't know about).

I one time got stopped without my license on me. The cop called it in and he found out that I do have a valid license. He told me that he wont give a ticket this time. And told me that my wife would have to drive home the rest of the way. It was a check point to see if people were driving drunk. No I was not.

In order to drive in the UK you will need to obtain an international driving licence from the country that issued your national licence (India) that will be valid for one year. If you wish to continue to drive in the UK you will have to obtain a UK driving licence by first getting a provisional licence and then passing both parts of the driving test.

In the states you have to have it on you at all times when driving. It identifies who you are and that you are legal to drive.

In some states they can impound your car if you are caught driving without a license.

No I don't think in UK you have to carry it at all times ,, If requested you have to produce it at a police station within a specified time,, but I understand that in USA you do have to have it with you .

In UK you do not have to carry it, but you must be able to produce it within 5 days at a police station. You can nominate the station you want.

it depends on the state but they really dont give tickets as long as you are do what you are suppose to. i was once stopped when I was runnging late doing 18 over not a usual thing and i didnt have my license, insurance, or or my title. and I explained the truth and kept my hands on the steering wheel always ask b4 you go to look for any thing they like that. shows respect. but you should be ok.
