Brand new basement hopper windows wont open?
Last September we had brand new Harvey basement hopper windows installed. Due to a few screw ups by the contractor they were installed late September so they were installed and have remained closed since. My husband tried to opne them today and none of them will open (4) They have no locks just a grab bar thing that you twist and then pull the window open. The installer won't come out unless I pay them. I know they are supposed to be a bit tough to open due to the weather sealing but my husband had a foot on the wall and was hanging and they still won't open. Now What????
Um 2 more things, I did request they come out to look at them they refused unless i paid them and 2...Hopper windows pull in - not out, there are screens there!

First of all these hopper windows don't push out as someone said - they pull in. How would they ever have a screen on them if they pushed out!
I would call Harvey Windows 800-942-7839 and tell them about the problem and also the name of the contractor who won't come out and look at them.
I take it you moved both handles at the top of the window so they point down and then pulled in on the handles? Try squirting some warm soapy water along the top and sides of the windows first. They may just have an air tight suction on them that needs the air-lock broken. Try a flat screwdriver wrapped in a cloth and gently pry inward or have someone go outside and gently push as you are pulling on the window handles, might not be able to do this if screens are in place?
Plus call Harvey windows.
I think it's the air suction on the windows makes them feel locked in place.

Not sure where you live but I cant imagine a contractor not going to a job site he got paid to do if there was a complaint and him not address that issue. I would call him up personally and ask him nicely to come over or if he is too busy to send someone over to look at them for free. If he doesn't you could always take them to court but you really have to figure how much that will cost you in the long run to cut your losses. I would think he would be concerned with a bad reputation for doing bad work and I would report him to the BBB if I didn't get satisfaction not to mention try and get a local media such as a tv station that reports on people getting ripped off by others to try and take the story, who knows with enough pressure he may try and make it right but who knows?
