What are blister bugs?
I read about them in the Mrs. Murphy Mystery series novel Sour Puss by Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie brown and was wondering wehat exacly blister bugs are.
Chris, the scene in the book they were mentioned in involves a woman named harry (her nickname, actually) Harristeen sitting on her tractor cutting hay and saying that if she didnlt dry it right and didnlt get the blister bugs out the hay wouldn't be any good.
Maybe your answer is what I need to understand that scen. :) Thanks for the answer. (Although I'll also wait for others to post as well)

I'm not sure what they are in the book, but there are things called "blister beetles" that are stinging beetles in the family Cantheridae. They live in grass, and can be a big problem for cattle and horses who eat straw with beetles in them. The beetles sting the insides of the animals mouth and throat. If too many are eaten, the chemicals in the beetles can cause pain the mucous membranes.
