is it illegal to saw down the barrel on a musket/muzzle loader?
curious as to what the law is concerning this, since its not technically a modern day firearm

According to the law they're not firearms. Someone once told me you can legally carry it without a permit, since it isn't a gun. Don't know about that one, but there is no minimum length you need to keep the barrel, so you can saw it as short as you want.

It is not illegal as far as the feds are concerned, because a muzzleloader is not classified as a firearm. You should check your state and local laws. Some states and municipalities have some pretty ridiculous gun laws.
