The very first novel you wrote?
I'm currently writing a novel, as a way to inspire myself, and as a practice, but I'm not planning on publishing it. Since it really is my first work, I noticed way too much cliches and I'm only in elementary, so I think it would be great having more experience doing this.
To all writers out there
How old were you when you wrote your very first novel? What inspired you to do it?
How did things turn out? Did you try to get it published?

I wrote my first novel last summer and I'm in my early 30s. I was re-inspired to write again after reading Twilight. I haven't tried to write a novel since my early 20s, and failed miserably. This time, I researched everything I could about writing a novel, and as a result I was able to write and finish it over the summer. Try not to jump into writing a novel until you've done research. It's not common sense and you'll end up making a lot of mistakes and probably becoming so frustrated that you don't finish.
Things turned out okay, but it's nothing I want to try to get published. There are a lots of things wrong with it and it reeks of amateur writing. My second novel is much better written, but, again, it's not professional enough to try to get published. I'm currently working on my 3rd novel and it's a no go, too. I'll ONLY try to publish if I feel my novels meet the professional standards of the publishing industry. That includes reading a lot of books and comparing my writing to those who are already published; I use published books as a benchmark for my own writing.

I am still in the process of planning my first fantasy novel. Usually I have trouble sticking with one idea so I never finish.
