My window shade is down and it won't spring back up. What to do?

Update:

I tried the first two answer suggestions, no good still. The rod's flat end is very stiff, I'm afraid I'll break it off. There seems to be a cog and stop thingy in there, maybe take the end off the rod and do something?

instead of pulling it straight down to spring back up pull it diagonally away from the window towards you and that should do the trick they do sometime lock up on you and i found that this works so try it

Has the spring inside the wooden part came unwound? (1). Remove the entire shade from the window, rewind shade part way onto wooden part, reinstall shade in window. Pull down on shade a little way and see if it will rewind.

(2). Remove entire unit from window and useing a fork on the flat end, rewind the spring. Reinstall shade. Does it work now?

(3). Remove from the shade from window, rewind shade onto wooden part, reinstall shade in window. Pull down on shade a little way and see if it will rewind.
