is this normal after neutering?
I had my 7 month old golden retriever neutered today. he has not peed since hes been home. hes been home 6 1/2 hours now. i have 2 other males, and never had this to happen with them. he whines a little here and there but is on pain meds. he will go out but then just sits down, knowing he shouldn't be sitting on the dirty ground, i even put puppy pads down in the house, not really wanting to chance that becoming a habit i done it anyway but still he wont go. should i be worried? it is after hours but i called my vets office and left a message but they wont get it until someone comes in at 1am to check on the overnight animals, it is now only 1130, so thought maybe someone here could help calm my nerves til he calls.
no nothing to eat or drink before surgery. and ate a little and has drank some water since coming home. to the person that said how would i feel if it were me, well i pretty much know how i would feel, been there, i didnt say he is in pain i have 2 different pain meds for him. no way would i on purpose allow him to be in pain just wanted to know if him not going to the bathroom is normal for some dogs. to everyone else thanks, My vet should be calling soon.

If it's any comfort, before neutering, my dog would pee every 4 hours, and immediately following surgery he did not pee or poop for a day, and when he did it was very small compared to what he usually did. My vet already gave me a heads up about that so I wasn't too worried but of course as their parent, you're gonna worry. It's alright to be worried, but it's not alright to let them know you're worried. You're the leader, they're depending on you to be strong in their weakness. Best wishes.

this is what I found on the website my mom uses with her animals. I think maybe he should be checked out considering what the article has said he may have a clog in his urethra
Dogs Will Pee More Often After Surgery; Leg Lifting Can Be Difficult
The dog will need to urinate more frequently after surgery. The veterinary surgeon will usually give the dog IV fluids to a dog who is undergoing spay or neuter surgery; this is a common supportive measure for a dog that’s undergoing an operation. What goes in must come out, so the dog may need to urinate more than usual after surgery.
And remember, a dog who is drowsy and recovering from surgery may not signal the need to go to the bathroom (i.e. standing by the door), so anticipate the dog’s bathroom needs to prevent an accident in the house.

when i got my girl done at 6 months for the first day she wouldnt pee, or eat. She was still foggy and when she stood she looked drunk and layed back down. I knew she was dizzy. It can take at least a day for some dogs to get over the anaseza. The next day she ate just alittle drank alot and peed a couple times. it wasnt until day 3 that she fully recovered. Your dog might just be alittle foggy still and isnt fully recovered from the meds. If hes not normal in a day or two then worry.

Yes it is normal. Make sure to leave out a water bowl for him at all times anyway. Between fasting, anesthesia, surgery and pain medication he probably feels a little "off" and maybe queasy. If he's still not drinking by tomorrow, call the vet.

Although I've had many dogs, all of them spayed or neutered, the after effects have been sometimes similar and sometimes different. My wiemaraner that I had wouldn't urinate for awhile after he was neutered. Eventually, we gave him time and he ended up going on his own. I wouldn't worry too much about it. But you should still speak to your vet in the morning just to make sure something more serious isn't going on.
Hope this helps!

has he been drinking any water, and did he have anything to eat or drink before the surgery? If he hasnt had anything he may not need to go and he may still be a little knocked out. Just give him time. I wouldnt worry too much.

Is the canine nevertheless youthful? The aggressive habit may be relating to your canine achieving adulthood, fairly than it being some form of positioned up neuter aggressive habit. If he's performing out in direction of different canine than this may be the case.

I'm not sure if there is a problem. If there is a 24hr emergency vet in your area, call them and ask. Hope your dog is okay!

Has he drank any water? Hopfully not. Don't let him incase he isn't able to or something is blocking it. wouldn't want your pup to get bladder infections if his eurine continues to adds up in his little bladder.
