  • If your 11 month old baby had to have 2 stitches cause of your dog biting what would you do? put dog to sleep?

this is not my dog or my baby, just asking others what they would do. here is the situation... a 2 year old lab that is food aggressive bit an 11 month old, baby had 2 stitches, the owner of the dog is the adoptive mother of the baby. the animal control stepped in took the dog for 10 days, dog is current on shots. but she has been ordered by court that dog can not be brought back in the house with the baby.. shes loves both the baby and the dog, she has had the dog since he was a puppy,so this is extremely difficult on her. so here is her choice..... let animal control put it to sleep or hope a lab rescue takes him or have a family member take the dog. no family member is in a position to take him, she only has 5 more days and does not know any friends that is willing to take the dog. i am family to this person, i have 5 dogs of my own so me taking the dog is out. what is the best thing to do? i know she has to put the baby first, there is no question to that . so put him to sleep or what ?

  • has anyone ever had this side effect using previcox?

I really don't know where to start. first off, I have been taking my animals to the same vet for about 9 years. my dogs are a little overweight--- 6-7 pounds, that's all. however he has them on this outrageous diet. i was only feeding them a 1/2 twice and day he wanted me to cut it down so i went to a fourth a cup twice a day, he said to reduce it even more. btw, my dogs are 3 golden retrievers and 1 lab mix. so i am now down to an eighth of a cup twice a day. I am have behavior problems now that i never had before, like turning over their food container during the night and eating, snapping at each other, coming up to the table while we eat, this never happened before this stupid diet, when i mentioned the problems i am having he wants to push pills on my dogs that will suppress the want for food. recently my oldest dog, the lab mix, age 8 yrs, was recently diagnosed with hip dysplasia. my vet put him on previcox, tramadol 50mg, glyco flex stage 3, and adaquin shots. if you read the side effects of the previcox it says this........ "The chewable tablets are not suited for all dogs. The active ingredient, firocoxib, may have side effects that should be reported to the veterinarian.

    Confusion-

Watch for behavior changes in the dog, such as being uncoordinated, aggressive or having seizures.[my dog bit me]

    Itching--

A dog can be allergic to NSAIDs such as firocoxib. Signs may include itching, scratching or skin sores. [my dog is stratching all the time]

    Thirst---

Look for unexpected changes in the way the dog drinks and urinates. The medication may have side effects that affect the kidneys. [he is drinking more]

    Precautions

Do not mix Previcox with other medications, especially painkillers such as aspirin, corticosteroids or prednisone

    Vomiting, Diarrhea

    Yellowing

the first thing it says is not suited for all dogs--- second thing is aggression.

well my dog bit me friday night--- i startled him, as soon as he bit me and realized what he done he just stopped and looked at me like oh god what did i do. it wasn't a ferious bite just a snap, done, i am sorry type thing. i say its the previcox---- the vet jumped all over me--- that dog is not to be allowed on the bed again{thats where he was at when i startled him}, he said he has other dogs on p

  • how many people love their animals?

just wondering how many people love their animals enough to stick it out with them in this economy? early this week someone asked a question about if you feel like you are your animals servant. my answer was no, that i love my animals. well they chose my answer as the best answer and then called me a low life? i do not understand why some people think you must be a low life if you love your animals enough to take the responsibility seriously. i am NOT RICH NOR AM I A LOW LIFE! I would not give my human kids away just because of the economy so why would i give my animals away? one of the dogs i have is from a shelter that was taken there because of the economy, she was due to be put to sleep the day i got her. just because people don't think about ALL the responsibility they are taking on when they get an animal. well call me a low life if it makes you feel better about yourself. my question is this- how many people would not give their animals away because of the economy and would you consider yourself a low life either way rather you would or not?

  • daughter had to put her dog to sleep?

My daughter had to put her dog to sleep friday due to cancer, he was diagnosed back in january. we both stayed with him, but the vet {i feel} did not give enough meds or as he said just had a strong ticker. i have had to put animals to sleep and never had one to fight like he did. anyway. when the vet gave the sedative, his head bobbed and bobbed and he peed every where. i have never had one to do this. he had to give the last injection 3 times, which of course made it harder for my daughter. as i said i have been through this myself, there was nothing anyone could do to make me feel better. does anyone know ANYTHING i can say or do to help her through this? she hasn't slept since he was put down because she has that image of him in her head where he was fighting to stay alive, now she is doubting herself on if she made the right decision. she did, he had stopped eating and was just laying around panting really hard. how do i get her to see she did the right thing by him?

  • rescued dog gave birth?

My friend rescued a dog from someone who was not taking care of it, she took her to a vet after she got her. She then learned that she is 15 lbs. under weight and has heartworms. And if that's not bad enough she was pregnant and due anytime. well a week after she got her, she had 4 puppies, all are doing well and have already found good homes when they are old enough. the problem is the babies are tearing moms teats up, what is the best thing to use on the teats that wont harm the puppies?

  • is this normal after neutering?

I had my 7 month old golden retriever neutered today. he has not peed since hes been home. hes been home 6 1/2 hours now. i have 2 other males, and never had this to happen with them. he whines a little here and there but is on pain meds. he will go out but then just sits down, knowing he shouldn't be sitting on the dirty ground, i even put puppy pads down in the house, not really wanting to chance that becoming a habit i done it anyway but still he wont go. should i be worried? it is after hours but i called my vets office and left a message but they wont get it until someone comes in at 1am to check on the overnight animals, it is now only 1130, so thought maybe someone here could help calm my nerves til he calls.

  • could my dog have a urinary tract infection?

I adopted a dog from a shelter back in jan. she was completely house trained, but in the last four days she has started peeing on my carpet. yes it took me 4 days to figure out which one it is. its always when i am not looking, example--- when i am sleeping, not home for short periods.or if i am in another room. i let all four of my dogs out before i leave, when i return and i also turn them out around 3 am.AND of course i let them out OTHER TIMES too. and i now know it is her that's doing it cause the other night i was in another room and the other 3 dogs were with me, came back in the room where she was and there was a wet spot. could she have a urinary tract infection, or could i be something else? i am taking her to vet tomorrow but just wanted to get some ideas. i have never had a dog do this before, i have had a cat to do this but never a dog. any ideas??
