Did a system recovery, and still have the virus?
So I discovered a browser hijacker on my two laptops the other day. I thought it was really strange that I turned them both on, and they both had the same virus. I never use the same flash drive on both of them or move files from one to the other. They each have their specific uses for me.
Anyway, I tried all my virus software, and it wasn't finding anything except tracking cookies. I have my stuff backed up, so I just did a complete system restore with my factory backup disks, jumped online after the fix, and BAM, still have the browser hijacker.
So my question is...can this browser hijacker be in my modem or wireless router? We left our wireless unsecured so friends/family could use it when they come over, so I guess I left myself open to some possibilities I didn't think of. Suggestions anybody?
I guess I need to add some info. When I try to download a new anti-virus, I either get re-directed immediately, or the updates get blocked so I can't run the program.
Also, I did not put any files back on my computer. I did the system restore, then reinstalled my anti-virus from the original disk, then just tried the internet to see if the virus was still active (which it was). I didn't restore any old programs. Just have factory settings.
And the malwarebytes site is immediate blocked from being opened (Internet explore connection failure supposedly). Don't you love the jerks that create these problems for us.
I did completely wipe my harddrive and reinstalled windows, and set my computer back to factory settings. THe virus should not be there at this point I would think.

hi katie A, those old nasty viruses can creep in from no where and it makes searching the web difficult but have you seen jurausic park three when the main start looked at those people and said you will probably leave this island alive well that is how to explain a virus a guy from another country released a virus called i love you so a half a million people thought it was from their husbands wife girlfriend or secret admirer to find out that they were infected with a virus that worked fast and destroyed their computer tower. they caught the guy it cost him $250,000. and five year probation but it did not replace those poor unfortunates computer. so like poison call kill so can a virus kill a computer so the best thing to get rid of a virus is to take your tower to a computer repairman and all of your software and tell him that you have a virus. now some people will tell you that you can remove a virus with software don't believe it they are flooding thier machines with a bunch of generic drivers and so do it right it does not cost that much to get rid of that virus right and i am talking like a friend. good luck hope i was helpful to you
Source(s): now as i rubb my hands together i think now what can i do to make my computer better huh! upgrade ram or a larger hard drive or ask the repairman he can tell you some fo the things he can do to make your computer really hum - mgo316Lv 71 decade ago

Don't buy anything or click anything again, the virus should die out eventually its just a scam, I had it before does it give you a desktop background saying this? "WARNING! Your computer is infected with spy ware" ? At All?
Also what virus software do you use ?
All i can say is probably save everything you have, and RESTORE YOUR WHOLE ENTIRE COMPUTER back to when you first got it.

Apparently the hijacker is on your personal files and you infected again your system.I have found only one program that can rid of a hijacker, spyware doctor but it is not free.

No they are not in your modem or router. They are in your hard drive.
Download, Install and update
1. SUPERAntiSpyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/
2. Malwarebytes' Antimalware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Then scan your computer with them. They will detect the problems and cure them.
