Why do poor white Americans tend to vote Republican...?

Because poor whites work hard to try and make it. They live paycheck to paycheck. Poor minorities live welfare paycheck to welfare paycheck. Of course this always isn't the case but statistics on the labor bureau website say it's the general premise.

Democrats try to fix poverty by taking from the haves and give to the have nots.

Republicans try to reduce the number of have nots by encouraging jobs and lowering taxes.

Poor white Americans tend to perceive that the Democrats care for Latinos and African-Americans more than whites. This is mostly supported by Democrat support for affirmative action programs and comprehensive immigration reform. In addition, the recent bailout and stimulus bills are perceived as mostly helping the rich. Finally, poor white Americans are often residents of rural areas, which tend to oppose gun control measures and support strong national defense efforts.

I think it is the same reasons why less than well off african americans vote Democratic.

You hardly see any representation of color in the G.O.P..

Long histories of voting G.O.P. means " white "vote and DEM vote means black.

Lack of seeing eye to eye/blacks; that blacks love their children just as much and success and prosperity from hard work just as much and white in G.O.P. do .

Lastly one reason Obama won is because business didn't take care of the average whites and used the "pull your self up by the bootstraps mentality". Tons of hard hard working Caucasian americans got left out of money grab / power grab . banks huge business no bid contracts and so on got a piece and the back bone of america (WORKING MEN & WOMEN OF ALL RACES) got screwed.

I do not agree totally w/ all of G.O.P. ideals I do .. agree w/ some race & shortsightedness will be around a long time in politics and i feel there is no short term solution for it .

Well, how do you know all poor white Americans vote Republican, and why only white? Most might do that because when you are poor you do not have the best education, so you aren't as well informed and are drawn in by Republican ideals.

I don't know that they do, but when I was poor and white (I am now poor and black), I voted Republican because I believe in individual freedom, self determination and basic human dignity. Also, democrats whine too much.

They want jobs created. That's what Republicans do. Republicans don't hate the wealthy like the mentally-challenged libs because they know the wealthy make jobs.

Plus the Republicans don't hate White people and make legislation against them like affirmative action, etc.
