A question for anyone owning a Remington 770.?
I bought one when I was looking for an inexpensive hunting rifle at Sportsman's Warehouse. The salesman recommended the 770 and it looked like a good buy to me. I had heard nothing about it at that time. After I got it home I noticed the bolt was binding at times. I sent it to Remington and had it repaired. It took about two weeks. It now works as fine as any bolt action rifle I have ever owned. Mine is in .308 caliber. It is very accurate and I have no complaints. Has anyone else had similar problems and what have you done about it. This rifle, for the money, does exactly what it is supposed to do. It can't compare to the 700 or more expensive guns. I am curious about other owners and their experiences. Thanks.
Yup, I should have check around and known more about what i was buying. Can't disagree.

Rule number one of buying something of which you know nothing about: Never take what the salesman recommends. He sold the 770 to you because no one who knows guns would buy the p.o.s.
It's a entry level rifle that uses cheap parts and sloppy manufacturing to make it that way. It may work fine now, but it won't last in the long run. They really are a black eye for Remington. I don't know why they continue to make them.
Next time do some research and pick up a Savage 110 or Weatherby Vanguard.

The 770 is notorious for the sticky bolt you described. I do not like the 770, i have shot them on several occasions and the gun cannot be compared to a Rem 700 or Win 70. In a budget bolt action, i like the Mossberg ATR 100.
My main dislike of the 770 (aside from the sticky bolt) is the fit & finish and then the way the gun feels. Its not solid to me.
