Yea, you need to change the whole cv half shaft. Find a shop with good reviews and try it, better if they are ASE certified. It would be cheaper if you get the part yourself n take it to them, then you just pay for labor. maybe have them check the wheel bearing too, The cv goes into the bearing. If the wheel bearing is bad and only the cv gets repaired, that tire can lock up. The job takes up to 3 hours or less. $120 to $300 depending on what kind of car n the shop.

If it's making a clicking sound it's too late to replace just the boot. You should change the whole axle. The labor to do so will be the same, usually 1-2 hours labor depending upon the experience and honesty of the shop that's doing the repairs. Good luck and hope this helps.

They do make a cv boot it is chop up down the middle and you may wrap it around the cv joint. in the U.S. is decrease than 20 USD. it truly is a kit that comes w/ a degreaser spray, the boot, new grease, & 2 clamps. an entire replace boot calls so which you will eliminate the axel. that's totally labour in intensity & that would take a pair of hrs + factors. $3 hundred-4 hundred USD here for that.

If its clicking, you have wear in the CV joint itself.

Presumably the CV boot has been open for some time and road grit has damaged the bearing rollers.

Not sure of your vehicle, but its possible to buy the CV joint separately for most vehicles, and fix it to the old driveshaft.

Allow an hour to replace the CV joint.

Too late you need a rebuilt axel.On my comercial account from napa most cost me $60 list is probably twice that.Probably bout $80 in labor even though I can do most of the in 20 - 30 minutes. So at a shopyou are probably lookin at $180-200.

its roughly around 200 bucks depending on the make and model of the vehicle. A shop would charge you double just to check it out. But you can change it your self.
