Nine weeks plus an extra week in reception (paperwork, shots, and last minute checks). The National Guard goes to basic with Active and Reserve Army Soldiers.

Well, if he's in college, then more then likely he's on college first, which means not for the first two years. If not then, they don't just send people, they send units. It depends on when his unit is scheduled to deploy. Guard units tend to have about three years between deployments. Just statistically the chances are pretty good he won't be going for a while, but there really is no way of knowing. He also probably didn't join for 8yrs, I've never heard of anyone doing that, I'm not sure if it's even offered. Everyone has an 8yr obligation, but that's not actually drilling. The most common enlistment is 6/2. That means he drills with a unit for six years, then is in the IRR (name on a list, doesn't do anything) for the other two. IRR folks aren't deployed except under the most extreme of circumstances.

10 weeks. You train with Active Duty, Reserves and other National guard members.

Army BCT is the same for all components of the Army - 10 weeks!
