I want to buy tomato supports and I'm having trouble deciding. Has anyone ever used Tomato Rings before?

That is what I'm leaning toward. Of course any advise on what you use would be great. I have a square foot garden so space is something to consider.

I have used them and I think they take up less space than the tomatoes flopping and drooping all over the place - you know how when there's a heavy rain or strong winds, the tomatoes go all over the place? The rings prevent that and you don't have the foliage covering up the other tomatoes - you can keep everything neatly contained in each ring - they're easy to store when not in use - they fit into each other - they're great

Have not used tomato rings but I've been looking into tomato supports myself recently and have concluded that a tomato trellis is the way to go -- especially for a square foot garden. You'll need to grow your tomatoes vertically to keep them out of the way. Use the instructions in the Square Foot Gardening book; they're constructed from electrical conduit and nylon square mesh that is strung from the 6-foot high conduit frame. The thing to remember about growing tomatoes in a square foot garden is you'll have to prune to a single main stem because there is a lot growing in a small space.

    Good luck!

The tomato rings work fine and are easier to store but you still need a support for them-stake, post or a section of rebar. I have used the old round tomato cages for years and they work just fine. Inexpensive, easy to use and will last for years.

buy yourself money makers (tomatoes) seed or plug plant and grow them in a hanging basket. you will get a good crop and in late june early july or if it gets humid use Bordeaux Mixture (copper sulphate) mixed with water to spray them (it is classed as organic) to protect from blite a fungus (this fungus affects all tomatoes) that ruins your fruit. There are other varieties that you can use but if the hanging basket is not an option then use a grow bag and bean canes for support.

I use concrete reinforcing wire 8 inch square wire staked to the ground with steel fence posts. I make baskets about 30 inches across and six feet high. One year the plants did so well that I had to wire 2 together. 12 feet of plant later I was still pickin'.
