I am looking into buying a new car. My choices are: Toyota Camry & Honda Accord. Which do you recommend?

I really want to get the 2010 Toyota Camry SE, as it gets 22 in the city and 33 on the highway, whereas the Accord gets 21 in the city and 31 on the highway. I am talking about 4 cylinder here.

Sadly, I am very concerned about the Toyota recalls... I don't want to buy something that will kill me. Right? And it seems as if Toyota has yet to find out what is causing their accelerating problems.

As for the Accord: it is also a family sedan, but it will be harsh on gas. I don't like small cars. I am scared of driving them.

So, what's your opinion? Are there anything about these cars I need to know about? What's your experience? Why would you choose 1 over the other?

Thanks.

Dad.

Even with the recalls I would suggest any Toyota car.

I own a 2010 Toyota Corolla (yes it was it was one of the vehicles recalled, but has been fixed), I commute every weekend from one state to another about a 2 hour drive. Even with the problems Toyota has had they have fixed the problem so there should be nothing to worry about.

With my Corolla I can fill my tank before I leave for my 2 hour drive, and arrive with barely even using the gas, I can drive around in the city after my 2 hour drive and not need to fill my tank up again for at least a week.

Whatever you do DO NOT get a ford. Horrible gas mileage. I use to travel the same 2 hour drive in a Ford Focus, and ended up using half a tank, and needed to refill my tank before I got into the city. Plus Ford has more recalls than any other company (personal experience).

My sister also has a 2010 Toyota Corolla, and she mostly travels in the city, and usually she fills up once every 1 and a half weeks, even with traveling long distances.

I would recommend the Camry, because Toyota (despite) its small problems, which any 2010 cars sold now have been fix, you will get your money worth, plus the sale back value will not change much.

My parents still have a 1991 Toyota Corolla, that Still works great, good gas mileage and everything.

Ultimately the choice is yours, both are good cars, but if you want long lasting car with good gas mileage I would suggest the Toyota.

Do you have a subscription for Consumers Reports online to check out their recommendation? They are usually very trustworthy... and it is also important to take into consideration the car's REPAIR record. While the 2010's don't actually HAVE a repair record, the older models of the same kind can give you some idea.

I like both the Camry and Accord... both reliable, well built cars. I don't think you should be concerned with the recalls. Toyota would be pretty stupid to keep building them with the problem... and they aren't that stupid!

The Camry is rated 87 out of 100 by CU... and is one of the "recommended" models, AND rates "above average" on all the ratings features. The Accord rates about the same, but a little pricier, and rates a 79 out of 100. So the Camry is better rated.

Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

Both cars are really good cars. Yes, there are notable issues right now with Toyotas. But I think it will be handled properly.

The specs of the Honda are not that different from the Toyota. Both companies are very reputable. If the price is about the same, I say get the Accord. I've known probably 20 people who have owned Accords and they never have complained, EVER.

It's not really that small a car... but you may be used to something larger like a Grand Marquis or a Cadillac. An Accord is probably just a bit smaller than a Buick LeSabre.

Their both good Japanese cars but I bet you your Honda is taking more gas consumption that the Toyota. I know if you needed any pieces to fix either car with those years you could go to a scrap yard and most likely to find what you need. But if you don`t find what you need I know that Toyota pieces are very expensive at the dealership maybe a bit more than Honda. Don`t forget Toyota they had what I think was 5 or 6 years running for service and they are very good for re-sale value. I hope this helps you out a bit. USA

I would stay away from toyota with the recent recall stuff- many people are saying they are cheating their customers and trying to 'short- cut' their way out. And Honda- i've heard both good and bad. Nice styling on the accord but the gas mileage isn't so great. Check out the new Taurus. My friend was looking for a full size sedan and was scared to buy american- but wasn't satisfied with toyota or honda. The new Taurus has excellent features and its awesome fun to drive. So, to answer your question- I'd go Honda over Toyota- but be sure to check out the Taurus. Take it for a test drive!

    Good Luck!

Get a Mazda 6 really fun to drive and a very good car(it uses the same suspension of the European ford Mondeo) the mpg is 21/30 but the engine has a good performance. And is the only big Japanese brand that didn't have recalls(nissan didn't as well)

I would go for the Accord, they seem to have more 'bells and whistles' than the Toyota. I did have an Accord some years ago and was very pleased with the performance and handling.

The fuel usage difference is so little that I wouldn't even consider that as an issue.

    They both are good cars.

Can I make another suggestion perhaps? For about the same price toy can get a Subaru Legacy. The millage is a little lower but you get All Wheel Drive. I would assume your price range is around $25,000 based on the Price of the Camry SE.

Here are the options for trims and what they come with: http://www.subaru.com/vehicles/legacy/index.html

The Toyota problem has been blown way out of proportion while other manufacturer's recalls are being ignored. Yes they have a fix and mine was done in 15 minutes. I've been driving them for 5 years and have never had a better vehicle.

    21/31 harsh on gas? Please!

Are you out of your mind? Why on earth would you want a Toyota after all the problems they have had? I would never buy a Toyota! Honda is the way to go. Check out the Honda Fit. Great on gas and plenty of room. Not to mention so much fun to drive!!!
