Wiper problem on 02 Ford Ranger?

This winter I left the switch for the windshield wipers on when I turned my truck off. It snowed that night and I turned my truck on in the morning there was too much snow and they couldn't move. Now they only turn on when I play with the switch or hit a bump hard. I know the gears aren't stripped, what do you think it could be? People have said a burnt out wiper motor. What do you think?

My guess would be wiper motor since they still work sometimes. That shows that the splines are probably ok and the linkage is not damaged.

But before you go buy a new motor, try swapping the relay with one that you know works. It's possible the relay got hot and is not working properly.

You got the domilphlotchy out of sync with the whizbang...

What happened is the wipers got moved on the arms. If it were a burnt out motor they wouldn't work..

You can try this I do and it usually works.

    1. with key off pop off the ENTIRE WIPER ARM.

THere is a bolt under the pivot point.

    2. mess with the switch until they start working.

let the motor run a while.

turn it off. I will usually put a piece of duct tape (I like Duct Tape) like a little flag on the wiper pivot. then turn them back on. and off and on again a few times. If the little flag ends up in the same lace each time you have resynced the wiper motor with the park switch.

Worst case scenario is a new motor but if you go by a junk yard you can get one cheap there.

Oh yeah, I flip up my wipers if it is going to freeze avoids this all together..
