What is the advantage of getting your national boards teaching certification?
ok, specifically, do you still have to file for certification every time you move state to state or is this just more credits? i already have one master's and i'm working on a 2nd in special ed. i don't want to be over-qualified.

There are lots of good reasons for getting national board certification:
1. You can probably be hired in any state you move to without taking any more courses or exams You may have to file to be certified in a new state, but you shouldn't have to fulfill a bunch of other requirements like a "regular" teacher would
2. Better pay wherever you end up
3. More job opportunities - people will want to hire you over inexperienced teachers because you have a documented track record of excellence
4. Better job opportunities - they will give you good offers, not the classes no one else wants (although some districts might ask if you'd be interested in the challenge - and it would be wonderful if the great teachers would take them on!)
5. Networking opportunities with other teachers who are exemplary - it's quite likely you will be invited to attend conferences and do presentations
6. Leadership opportunities - it is also likely that your district and state will tap you to serve on various commissions and committees. You will meet lots of other excellent educators and your opportunities will skyrocket!

More pay! Also you are more than likely going to be hired over someone who doesn't have their National Board and when it comes time to cut back on teachers they probably won't fire a teacher that has her National Board.
