Do you think AMD will hit a home run with the Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8GHz for $199USD?
Apparently this CPU will be released on April 26, 2010. It seems poised to crush all the LGA 1156 CPUs from Intel with its 2 extra cores and $199USD price tag. This CPU will drop right in to all AM2+ and AM3 sockets with a possibility that the mobo will need a BIOS update. Since the least expensive AM3 board with dual-crossfire is the ASRock M3A770DE for $60 (and 4 RAM slots), would it be worth it to you to make the switch to AMD for only $260? (less if you already have an AM2+/AM3 mobo)

Of course I knew about the i7-980X CPU but the price makes it non-competitive. If I had mentioned it, I'd have just made myself look stupid so I ignored the fact. The i7-980X is a non-issue here, as you pointed out. :-)
Dave, you're the first person I've ever seen to call 2.8GHz slow. Does that mean that the i7-920 is a turtle because it's only 2.66GHz? Sorry pal, you don't really understand computers if you think that clock speed is the most important thing, tag or no tag.

Well, if you didn't know it, Intel just release the i7 980x 6 core, but it is running $1200 just for the cpu, so yes, definitely...I think the new 6 core AMD is going to be a killer. Obviously, you save a cool GRAND.

In shopping for CPUs, you want:
1) Most important: High clock speed (nope, it doesn't have that)
2) Lots of cache (check)
3) At least 2 cores (check)
4) Low price is nice (price is a bit high)
Considering you can get a much faster CPU from AMD (the 965) for less money, I predict this flops horribly.
It would be interesting at about a $140 price point. But even then, the 955 or 965 would still be a better value, in terms of bang/buck. Note the 955 and 965 would both beat this new 6-core processor for bang/buck, even though they would cost more (if the 6-core was $140)
I'm not sure what AMD is going for. Bragging rights that they can create a really slow processor with lots of cores and charge too much for it?
I'd be solidly behind it if they could up the clock speed to something decent like 3.4GHz or faster, and still sell it for $200 or less. THEN they would have a winner!

Currently, I'm using an AM3 mobo + Phenom II x4 965 C3. I believe your making a mistake, those 6 cores are meant to crush with the Core i7 series. Introducing cheap Hexacores is AMD's way to counter intel's HyperThreading Technology. I'm guessing the fastest Hexacore the T1090 will equal the Intel core i7 975 and the T1055 model will equal the core i7 860/920. Maybe they will be faster, But the difference will be small.
So 6 cores sounds great but it won't outperform the Core i7 series. It will only equal them.
Just my 2 cents. But when AMD introduces them. I'll be sure to purchase the T1090. I've been using AMD processors for a long time now. Simply because AMD gives you allot of bang for your bucks.

get a fx 6350, its 5$ greater and that is somewhat greater useful then the undeniable fx 6300! yet do no longer touch phenom....except you over-clock then those are the only right much less costly processors obtainable (nonetheless would not propose them nonetheless nevertheless)
