Is a "Get Well" or "Thinking of You" card more appropriate for a cancer patient?

A friend of mine has been battling cancer for years, and he thought he was cancer free, but went in for regular screenings. Today the docs found more cancer after almost a year of being cancer free. I would like to send him a card, but which is more appropriate? I kinda of think that a "Get Well" card is more for the flu or a broken arm or something...I don't know. Would a "Thinking of You" card be better?

"Thinking of you" is more appropriate.

A "Get Well Soon" card is a little elementary school if you ask me. If you write well in a "Thinking of you" card, it has the same effect and is a little more tactful.

I personally think "Thinking of you" is more appropriate with even a broken bone.

May be I'm the odd one out here--but I hate when someone tells me to "get well" when I'm sick. If I could "get well" I would. I understand the sentiment but it just seems to miss the obvious.

I think it's very apparant that you're a caring friend to realize that a "thinking of you" card is more appropriate. No one can control if they get sick, so how can they "get well"?

For me, what is even better is no stamped message but a little note in a pretty card (cause I'm a girl) that let's me know I'm very special to another person. Those I treasure!

Yes, what you suggest is true. A "Get Well" card isn't inspiring because he might think he is never going to get better, especially after going back in for the same thing. "Thinking of You" is more personal and gives him more hope then the other card because it means that he means something to someone and it's rather encouraging to them to get better. You might think that is supposed to be standard for people, but when families put their parents in an old folks home, some can be abandoned and you don't want someone to feel that. I personally think humor is great for that situation, but you can decide that for yourself.

A "Thinking of You" card would be better than a get well card as far as cancer is concerened. A get well card mey cause your friend to dwell on his illness while the thinking of you card shows that he has someone who cares for him. If possible, you should visit him in person.

I think a thinking of you card would be better in this situation since he has an ongoing illness.

"Thinking of You" and inside you write down 2 consecutive weekends in the next month that you are free and ask them to pick one of those days to get together for dinner. It's something positive for them to look forward to.

I think thinking of you is better. Get well soon may remind them that they have cancer, thinking of you may get their mind off of it for a little while. I hope your friend makes a speedy recovery.

I got both and was just happy to get cards at all, but Thinking of You is better, IMO

it depends, how close was the friend?

putting, get well soon-i mean it! i think would b okay, its better than just saying get well like everyone does.

thinking of you sounds nice, but not really if its a close friend, then it sounds to formal.

Get well! Don't send the other kind, it makes it look like maybe he's going to kick the bucket.
