Do you think America will treat American women like Middle East treat Arab women if feminism cease to exist?

Like some feminists would like to believe?

I received an answer from a feminist saying: "I think it is quite obvious. Women aren't treated very well in the Middle East and we don't want the same situation here."

I think she's implying if feminism disappears, western countries will treat their women like the Middle East treat their women.

Feminism eternally shoots itself in the foot with such unsubstantiated claims that defy logic and reality.

They continue to make such spurious allegations in the sure knowledge that few people will have actual experience to refute their claims and can claim higher authority over their audiences ignorance.

How many "authoritative" feminists -- or respondents in this forum -- have ever examined first hand Mid-East culture?

If not, what right do you have to pontificate ignorantly on the basis of biased propaganda presented to you in very sanitised form ?

I have such experience : I spent 5 years travelling and involved in business through the Mid-East.

I visited in Libya, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, The U.A.E., and even pre-Ayatollah Khomeini Iran.

Even with this knowledge I would not prognosticate on their behalf.

    Two things I WILL say.

    1) NEVER presume that males control anything but business and public life : ALL else is female controlled -- subtly or aggressively.

    2) Very many Mid-East females consider Western females stations with disdain and few would "aspire" to them.

Cultures grow and evolve to meet their local environments.

To suppose there is a "one style suits all" is an immense arrogance. Mid-East solutions will not fit Western problems OR vice-versa. Why ignorantly try ?

No. American women never were treated like middle eastern women even before feminism. And even in the middle east, the condition of women is variable, depending on which country we are talking about.

Malancam is right. I, too, have lived in the Middle East; I'm originally from Wisconsin and am an American, of Prussian descent. I have lived in Iraq, got married in Amman Jordan and now, have been living in Saudi Arabia for the past 16 years. In the home the women rule; in the business world the men rule; in women's business they rule.

However; there is another side to the story that the feminist don't know about.

This side is how strong American women marry Middle Eastern men and try their damnest to change them, or better yet, put up a hell of a fight; only to end up losing; how do they lose? The most common answer is, they fall in love.

I know of a personal story (no it's not mine) of this New York High-fashion model who married a Saudi; he wanted her to be a certain way. She fought him hand tooth and nail; in the end she gave in because she fell in love with him. He told her from the beginning he had no intentions on falling in love with her; he never did. You see, as he stated on the day of their nuptials, he married her only for sex and obedience; he ended up beating her into submission; ironic that, because she fought him so, he would not think her submissive; he, also, kept his word about not falling in love with her. Was she ever happy with him? No. How come she never divorced him back then? As she puts it, "He treats me like "5417", but I love him and according to my book you don't turn your back on those you love." Quite the truth he did treat her like "5417"; he walked all over her and at times "squatted" right on her face; not only that she was deathly afraid of him; all he had to do is whisper her name and she'd go flying. Being a former New York High-fashion model; when she got her nose in a fashion magazine you could light her feet on fire and she'd completely ignore it; however, if he were to whisper her name, this happened once, down went the magazine and she literally flew the five feet between them, got him what he wanted, she got it for him; went back to her magazine as though nothing happened.

When did this take place in the 80s; she married him in the late 70s; second wave feminism has been with us since the 60s. All of this took pace in Colorado. I, also, used to live there.

It happens and the feminists cannot stop it, because certain women allow it to happen.

This is every mother's (of boys) responsibility to bring up their own. Some do a great job and prepare their sons really well for life. Some others... no comment!

In some countries, boys are separated from their mother from a really young age to be brought up with the men whilst their mothers keep themselves to the women's quarters.

We already have a really high rate of divorce and domestic violence in our societies. If feminism should disappear, no woman would even take the risk of getting married. (unless HE's rich and SHE's that dumb...)

Feminists completely lack any understanding of society. They are too sexist, and see the world only through gender, above even country. It's the flagrant disregard for all else thsat I dispise most about feminist attitude. They fail to see that feminism was just part of the progression of this society being civilised.

They would rather pretend that feminism maintains the civility (presumably through some sort of omnipresence held only in place by regular ugly lesbian rituals)

EDIT: I actually agree with her, as part of my anti-muslim sentiment and would like to disassociate my comments from her, in this case, although i believe thet still have merit pertaining to feminists generally. I would hope any femnist agrees that this would be something far beyond just feminism.

Let me get this straight. Western culture never treated women like Arab culture treat their women even prior feminism, so I don’t know where feminists are basing their paranoia from. Then again, it's not just paranoia. It's also an excuse feminists use to justify feminism's long-overdue existence.

experienced Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. No the ladies persons we encountered weren't oppressed. The Western international regards the jap international in this sort of wierd way. lifestyle is diverse. far be it for me The Westerner to tell The Easterner how they might desire to habit their lives. Hypocritical in the severe would that be. Twilight- save posting like this and "Yoda Lomax" would be sitting at your ft.

No. If we could get rid of feminism we would have a much better chance at achieving something like equality.

    Nahh.

I watched this video on universal health care, and they were talking about how it will be a revolution that no one will want or support being undone, just like women's rights, black/civil rights.

I seriously doubt it, because from what I understand, American women have not been raised to submit to sexism or to believe that they are inferior to men. The culture is different. And I think even if a woman doesn't classify herself as a feminist, she still won't put up with discrimination.
