Looking for a bread maker?

I am looking to find a bread maker that makes standard sized bread. A horizontal loaf that I can slice to the size of store bought bread. I have an older bread maker but the loaf is hugely high and makes slices that are way to big for a sandwich. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Make a sturdier loaf such as whole wheat or multi-grain, and slice the slices in half to make sandwiches.

So that you can still use the one you have! Who says all sides of the sandwich have to have a crust, lol?

Mine's a Welbilt somethingorother. It makes vertical loaves, but they're not much bigger around than a loaf from the store. You just cut it from the top down and it makes a good size sandwich slice. All the horizontal ones I've seen (like my mother's), make pretty fat loaves. They kind of have to, just because of the way bread machines work. Wow, I guess I'm not really any help after all, other than I suggest you look for a skinnier vertical machine, I suppose.

I have a Black and Decker one, the All in One model, that makes horizontal loaves. You get hollow places where the paddles were in the bread but it's a normal shaped loaf. You could control the height of the loaf by changing the recipe down by a cup or two of flour and in fact you mght have to. The recipe book that came with mine suggested 6 cups of flour for one loaf of whole wheat bread and it practically popped the top off the machine when it rose. I had to switch it down to 4 cups of flour and the loaf is still a bit taller than average.

Most bread makers I've seen are too over sized for standard sandwich bags. Even as far back as 25 years ago,I could never find that "right" size. What I did was measure the slice sizes and went to Walmart and bought plastic containers. To heck with the sandwich bags.

I have a Breadman Pro that makes horizontal loaves. I love it, it also has every other setting ever needed. Anything from dough to pizza dough, to even preserving jams and jellies. I use the dough setting the most often.
