Devin Hester: Cornerback or Wide Receiver?

We all know of the Chicago Bears' decision to convert cornerback/return specialist Devin Hester to wide receiver prior to the 2007 season. This decision most likely ruined his return abilities a year later. Also he hasn't shown that he can be an elite receiver, though he's a good one. What I want to know is, what if they would've kept him at cornerback? If he was good enough to get drafted in the 2nd round as a cornerback, why switch him? I didn't watch him in college so I need you guys to tell me whether he was a good corner or not. Would he had been better off trying to follow in the footsteps of his mentor, Deion Sanders?

In college he was the returner of the year, the bears needed a returner. They got Devin for 1 reson and 1 reason only as a returning speciallist. He didnt even start in college that much witch was Miama. Good luck :)

Hester attended Suncoast High School, where he played football as a cornerback, wide receiver, return specialist, and running back. He graduated actually didnt gradutate until 2001-2002 because he enrolled in University of Miami as a sophomore. Which made him 19-20 years old. I wasnt at his graduation so I dont know which one it is. and to the guy below me he was 24 when drafted.

  • The Bears changed his position because he didn't fit their system as a CB. The Bears' D prefers CBs to be tall, over 6 foot. Hester is 5'11, and he doesn't really have that great of a jumping ability. They drafted him because he's an explosive player, because they were already stacked on defense.

VVVV I agree, he's actually a pretty decent WR.

devin was drafted in the second round but he wasn't able to fit into the bears defensive schemes so the converted him into a WR. personally, i think he is a better wide-out than corner.
