Thinking about gauging ears?

Well I was going to buy 14's today. And I wanna know does it hurt to put 14's in. I have had my ears pierced since I was a baby. Throughout the years I never wore earrings. I recently put a pair of regular earrings in the other day and the holes are still open. Can somebody help! :[

Just to be on the safe side and cause you less pain I would start at 18 or 16g, and it's not called gauging it's called stretching.

Before you start stretching you need to be educated so that you do not cause damage to your lobes.

I don't know how large you plan to stretch, but if you plan one day to not have stretched lobes and you want your lobes to go back to normal I advise you to Not stretch past 2g because going any larger your ear will not heal back to normal. if you do plan to go larger than 2g here is some advice I give you dear friend, Never ever ever skip/jump sizes you will damage your ears, cause blow outs, thinning of the lobes, and even rips or tears. When stretching you should be using oils such as Jojoba oil, emu oil, vitamin E, and or Bio oil to lube and ease stretching. also oil massages should be done between stretches so you can moisturize and thicken your lobes. at smaller stretches wait 4 weeks to a full month before stretching larger, and once you get to 2g (larger stretches) I advise you to wait 2-4 months before stretching. listen to your body. Stretching the lobes is NOT a contest. if you take it slow the results will be lovely.

    DON'T start at 10.

Typically, regularly pierced ears are gauged around an 18-20 gauge. Sometimes it's a 16 but not often. Going from an 18 to a 10 is a BIG leap, so I strongly recommend buying a graduated spacer before you buy 14's. Get one with a tapered end- they often sell little wooden nail-like earrings that are very small and tapered and will eventually stretch them out. From there, you can go to the smallest size, like said, perhaps a 10, but i would stick to a tapered end spacer for the time being. Also, be aware, spacing out your ears are very addictive. Good luck!

Jeez.. I didn't know people felt so strongly against stretched ears.. haha. I, personally, find large gauge ears very attractive. I have 3/4" myself and I am most drawn to guys with 00g - 1" .. I've dated guys with 2"+ That's just me though. :]
