HD's Screamin Eagle Super Tuner vs. Power Commander, Fuel Pack, etc?
Does ANYONE that rides an HD do the RESEARCH to relaize that the SE Super Tuner is FAR SUPERIOR to all of the "piggy-back" FUEL ONLY controllers on the market???
The Super Tuner requires no mounting, it simply reprograms the ECM, it allows for Auto Adjust for Engine Decel Enleanment to eliminate exhaust backfire on decel, Acellerator Pump Feature for more instantaneous throttle repsonse, Rev-Limit adjustments, Timing Advance and Curve Adjustments, it has a selection of tables for engine displacement adjustments for big bore/stroker combos, and SOOOO MUCH MORE....it's tuning capabilities are endless!!!!
The Super Tuner is only $400, Software is $50 and the Cables are $50 (for do-it-yourselfers).
Simply hook it up, reprogram it, unplug it.
ALL other modules on the market, the Power Commander, Fuel Pack etc....the ONLY thing they will do is control FUEL, they have NO other adjustments available. The only one on the market that will allow further adjustments is the Power Commander, but you have to buy separate add-on modules. It is hard enough to mount the Fuel Controller, now you have additional modules to add....how A& where is a BlTch!!!
Cost of these module range from $257-$350...almost the same as the Super Tuner. For the new 09-up HD's, you have to the use the Power Commander 5, $300 if you want the Auto-Tune Module, that is another $300....and the Auto-Tune only tunes the engine for THEORETICAL STOICHIOMETRIC EFFIECIENCY, it does not tune it for the individual engine OPTIMUM performance.
With any module...DYNO TUNING is the only way to achieve OPTIMUM performance on any engine. The maps that are downloaded and installed are only GUIDELINES....you have no idea WHERE the map was made and what other mods have been made. A map designed at Sea Level is useless for a bike at 5000 ft elevation. 10 identical engine will require 10 different maps for optimum performance. Engine are like humans, we all require some different to make us run optimally, a little tweak here, a bigger tweak there.
The Super Tuner is only $400 and YES...you CAN revert back to stock....just simply load the stock map back.
I don't know any details on who sold it to mim and what they told him...but the info you are giving me is TOTALLY wrong!!!
If his bike runs "ok" and yours runs great, his map is off. The Super Tuner will walk circle around the PC if it is tuned PROPERLY....increasing the rev limit to 6500 for rubber mounts, 6200 for Softails and giving it the proper timing curve is CRUCIAL for performance.
After experimenting with the ST and the PC... ON A DYNO, we installed a PC on an 07 Softail, dialed the fuel in perfectly. We took off the PC and installed the ST and got the fuel set it it, gained 1.5 hp, tq was same. We then set the Rev-Limit to 6200, and experimented with timing, after about 6 or 7 timing map changes, we gained 7hp and 5 in TQ.....something the PC is NOT capable of!!!

I would have to tend to agree with Vtwin Doc. I have an an 08 Street Glide with the Power Commander(which is now at the landfill) and an 09 Wide Glide with the SE Tuner (both tuned on a dyno) after my tuner explained to me what the SE Tuner does compared to the Power Commander and PROVED it on the dyno, I was convinced, my Wide Glide has more than 10 horsepower more than my Street Glide, and man I tell you, the extra 1000 rpm the engine is able to turn is NICE! After riding the Wide Glide for a couple weeks with it set up right, I yanked off the Power Commander from my Street Glide, threw it in the trash and had the SE Tuner installed and dyno tuned, again a MAJOR improvement over the Power Commander. As far as I am concerned Power Commanders are JUNK!
Reddishpa, you know someone that paid $1200 for the SE Tuner? I paid $385 for each of mine and $250 to have them tuned!

I'll take a $300 PC over a SE Tuner most any day. My friend and I each bought new FLHXs. He spent $1200 on the SE Tuner . I spent $300 on a PC. His bike runs OK, mine runs great. I can take the PC off and go right back to stock, he can't. All a Power Commander does is add fuel. ( you can adjust timing and increase your REV limiter, but I didn't bother with that). When I changed the pipes and the air cleaner it leaned the engine out. All I wanted to do was make it richer and that was exactly what I got from the PC. I got in touch with fuelmottousa.com and for $400 I got a SE backing plate, a super sucker K&N air cleaner, a can of K&N filter cleaner, and a can of filter oil plus a mapped out PC for my bike. No $150 trips to the dyno and I had it installed in about 15 minutes. There are no addd ons, you just get remapped. I know Zipper Cycles sell a tuning outfit than can get very expensive if you start buying the auto tune and etc. Like I said, my bike runs 100% better than I did before the PC and I would recommend "fuelmottousa.com" to any body. Plus the PC was about $200 less than the SE Tuner and that was before the dyno, the installation, and the $65 an hour labor rate.

I have just finished reading a article on the BMW1000RR bike with power commander in this months U S Riders News. This is the new BMW with 193 HP. The test driver said this bike pulled the front wheel off the track at Road Atlanta doing over 120 MPH. Maybe this Dyno can help a bike that the Power Commander can not but the article says the Power Commander with the correct pipes, quick shifter and traction control are the way to go for power. This bike also traveled at over 170 MPH on the Atlanta Track. I do not think we have to worry very much about the HD passing this machine. I rode a pan head for 22 years and know it would have been better sitting and watching this bike.

Ya know Doc I suspect a majority of owners are not as astute as you are and are directed or allow themselves to be lead by advice with a different motivation. What is the dealers margin on these other clunky, limited, multi part tuning solutions? I think therein lies the answer.

I can't imagine anything with an ECM calling itself a motorcycle. Whatever happened to points and carburettors? Silly thing probably has a starter motor too.....
