i specialize more in shoujo, but i hope these work out for you.

Romance in shounen manga is hard to find (unless you're looking for harem manga or something, lol). CLAMP is actually quite good, but its art IS pretty flowery etc., so I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for.

However, I can think of one...

Chrno Crusade -- supernatural and romance, but not shoujo. It features a hyperactive nun named Rosette who is bonded to a demon named Chrno that draws his power from her life source. They obviously have a close bond. She is searching for her brother I believe. It's been a long time since I've seen it, but it was quite good; funny and mysterious. Its famous for its sad ending. You should go check it out. :)
