If it's really sore as in "ugh I can't swallow at all" then soup (especially tomato) is good, the heat is very soothing and there's nothing solid to cause any additional pain but it still fills you up nicely.

Make sure you select one of those creamy soups and not anything with solid vegetable, meat or pasta pieces.

    Yogurt, Oranges, Scrambled eggs, Porridge.

Drink warm lemon with honey. I cannot recommend this enough, it flushes (detoxes) the system, boosts the immune response, doses up your vitamin C, gives you an energy burst, it is an amazing pain killer as the honey coats the throat, it's a natural antibacterial & antiseptic, it cuts through any congestion from the nose or lungs which spreads the infection to the throat, and it makes the throat a very difficult environment for viruses & bacterial to survive in.

1/8th cup concentrated lemon juice, two teaspoons of honey and stir it well with hot water, drink it warm, not hot.

Avoid caffinated drinks, avoid milk or milk products as these tend to thicken the mucus production and stick in the throat (yogurt is an exception because of the good bacteria and small amounts of milk in cooking is fine as it breaks down the milk composition) avoid extremes in temperature (boiling or freezing)

    Hope you feel better soon.

    Hello Katie!

I have sore throats a lot, and so have my parents, who have influenced my knowledge about curing, or at least temporarily reducing the pain/burn of a sore throat.

First of all, cold foods or drinks? Most people think that cold food items are good for your throat but the answer is: A big NO. Although it may seem that they numb your throat, and it doesn't hurt for a while, it can make your throat worse. In fact, your throat probably turned sore because of the cold.

Warm food items are best. I would suggest tea. Definitely, tea will help, but it has to be boiling hot. The warmth will help the pain ease after a longer time than the cold items (because it doesn't do the terrible job of numbing!) , but it will most likely heal quickly, and not get worse like with cold items. Add some honey, too!! First of all, it will "slip" through the mucus and kind of dissolve it. Also, it's healthy and will improve the wellness of your immune system. Also, ginger ale is good. Since it's pretty gross warm, just have it room temperatured. Also, hot chicken noodle soup is great. Plus the homey and natural taste will encourage your body to feel better. Also, tomato soup is awesome too! :) Also, a great tip is to put lemon or orange juice into your soup (or tea!). Not too much of course, but a little will help your throat. In fact, you can buy some orange juice and drink it warm. (but not lemonade because usually it's just a mix of artificial flavors. Also, eggs (warm of course) are good too.

Like I said, don't eat anything cold, and absolutely don't drink milk or very cheesy things! However, if you warm up the milk, and make it very hot, you can drink it, although I wouldn't suggest it. Why can't you eat milk or milky items? It has to do with the fact that it encourages and produces mucus in your throat and stick in the throat. However, one thing that I discovered is that YOGURT is a (only) milk product that is great. It has probiotics. (the good bacteria to help you feel better!) Some yogurts have probiotics, but it is not living probiotics. "Stonyfield" has both drinkable and the creamy yogurts that have living probiotics, to help you quickly! :)

Also, you should definitely stay warm when your throat is sore. Go under a nice soft blanket, and eat your meals. :)

Good luck and feel better! <3

For you sore throat, eat a Popsicle and don't drink anything with milk in it because it will cause phlegm. Stuffy nose rub some Vicks on it or take a hot shower and lay down.

I suffer terribly with sore-throats specially in the winter, for me ice cream and tea work really well, one numbs the throat whilst the other helps with the dryness.

I actually favor vegetables but like fruits that we use in salad such as tomatoes and avocados.

One of the most healthy foods are fruits and vegetables. You cannot find any healthy diet without them!
