Peanut and Almond are BOTH fruits.
but neither of them are NUTS.
Peanuts are classified under "Legume" ( a type of fruit and is different from Nuts)
Almonds are classified under "Drupes" (another type of fruit and is also different from Nuts)
Nuts are hard shelled fruits of some plants that has an indehiscent(opens at maturity) seed.examples are Chest Nuts and Hazel Nuts
Nut is a type of fruit.
In broad terms, a fruit is a structure of a plant that contains its seeds.
just because peanuts has -nuts in its name doesn't mean it is a true NUT. :D

A peanut also known as a ground or monkey nut is part of the legume family and grows in the ground. Legumes are part of the bean family and so vegetables.
An almond is a tree nut, the seed of the plant and grows above the soil. Fruit is the ripened ovary of a plant so nuts are biologically fruits.
The whole nut thing is a lot more complicated and if an allergy is your issue the list below might help.
Walnut: walnut, pecan Birch: hazelnut, filbert, hickory nut
Mango: pistachio, cashews Plum: almond
Legythis: brazil Macadamia
Beech: beechnut, chestnut

Nuts are awesome (walnuts and pecans have been rated in the top 10 healthiest foods) but, like everyone else said, they are loaded with calories and fat. Almonds, which are not actually a nut but are the seed of a fruit, are lower in calories and fat... but still have them. Are you eating your nuts raw, or roasted in oil? If they're roasted, you have to also take into the account the fats/calories in that oil. Beans are also a wonderful vegan replacement for protein and fats, and aren't quite as caloric. Avacados also rock. Grains, such as wheat, quinoa, etc., have protein but not as much as beans and nuts.

almonds are nuts.

They're loaded with tons of calories and fat, too. I think it would be ok as long as you are watching your total calorie and fat intake for the day. Probably good for a vegan but not so much for the rest of us.
