First prenatal appointment?

I'm 7w1d pregnant with my second, and so far I haven't had any problems. I'm working out some insurance issues, and I'm probably not going to have coverage until the end of this month. My question is, I'll be almost 11 weeks by then. Is that too late for a first appointment? Can I wait until then, or should I go ahead and pay for this appointment without insurance. Those of you that have had prenatal care without insurance, do you remember how much the first appointment cost?

Well I went throu this just a couple of months ago. With my first prenantal appointment I went at 5 weeks thinking that I had insurance but ended up not having insurance. At that office they do a family history check and ask about how ur pregnancy is going so far and all that and got tons of booklets! The appointment without insurance or anything was $125.00 and that was going to a well well know ob/gyn and midwife since I thought I had insurance that month. I personally wouldnt wait that long to go see the dr. because you will almost be out of ur first trimester by 11 weeks! So, I would just find the money and pay it. Also I am now 13 and a half weeks pregnant and I am getting ready to go in for my 3rd prenatal appointment so you'll also miss out on the certain tests that are only available to you between 10-13 weeks which you could miss and you wont hear the heartbeat until then!! Once you hear the heartbeat ur chance of miscarraige drops dramatically! So, go for the first prenantal at least to get on prenatals!! ;)

I was 11 weeks when I went in to see the Dr. for the first time... I can't take prenatal vitamins b/c I have really high iron and get constipated from them so on my Nurse's advice from the OB/GYN office , she told me to take 2 flintsone vitamins a day and that would cover all my vitamins. I haven't changed anything other than taking my vitamins everyday so don't worry..

If you feel you have no problems, it would be okay to wait. Seeing, that i wasn't able to have my 1st appointment until i was almost 5 months! However, if you feel you are having problems you should just pay for the appointment and get seen.
