I was wondering, does a hard drive laying right on top of another bad for it? and What does it do? just ov?

My computer keeps conking out after a few hours of being on and it continues to do this right after I restart. I opened my computer and one of my hard drives were laying on top of another and hot to the touch. I was wondering, does a hard drive laying right on top of another bad for it? and What does it do? just overheat? separateded it and it "seems" to be doing better and maybe even faster.

    Bad for cooling due to poor air circulation. There should be some air space between the two. If there is no fan that blows air directly to hard drive, consider a hard drive cooler;
