The Thinking Toad

We strive for intellect and thoughtfulness

wisdom, brain and wit

and it's sad that some don't know the half of it.

The torment of ignorance is the lightest load.

Consider the agony of the thinking toad,

or the jersey cow?

she’d shrink in discontent,

her udder’s dry!

if she knew she feeds the criminal, the hypocrite,

she’d cry.

and…

There’d be anguish in the minds of mourning hens

if they knew and understood their chicks

deep fried for men.

that lazy house pet, dog or cat

would weep a woeful tear of two ... or laugh in great guffaws

if it considered

the importance of what men do. © pat Ramsden

Update:

I agree.. its a leap.

perhaps the toad

needs to ponder his mate crushed

to mush on a gravelly road

and

wonder what urgent errand

inspired such disasterous end.

That was a huge jump from the thinking toad to the jersey cow....but, I love the title so it must stand.

I like this, it's the kind of thought spiral that afflicts me quite often.

As I drive by the tiny, gambolling lambs I think 'Thank goodness they, and their Mums aren't sentient beings'
