Poetry is something I learned about very early in my life. Growing up it became a place to put my thoughts and internal conversations like having an imaginary friend.

  • Do you like to have fun? Do you like to laugh? Do you think this poem is funny?

well....I like to have a little fun from time to time

    Poor Shot Pat

    The bobcat

    snaps

    suddenly aware

    streaks her

    tawny lightening tail

    up

    over a traumatized

    young hen

    white feathers drift

    dance

    blood splatters

    on gravel

    shot embeds

    in a wall of air.

    cat's gone

    hen's squawk'n

    gun's smok'n

    me? chok'n

    pissed.

  • I posted this last spring.. is it still relevant?

What about a little spring to our steps in honour of melting snow?I love limericks!

There once was a Rapper van Crinkle

Who sweet as she was, couldn't tinkle.

    She cried as she tried

    And she ripped her insides,

Now she's known as River van Crinkle

  • Is this poem worthy of anything?

    Don’t.

I want you to come back you know,

    but don’t.

I want you to laugh again and pull me in,

    but don’t.

I want to feel the breath of you on my neck

and the taste of you on my tongue,

    but don’t.

I want you to come back,

    but don’t.

I don’t want to send you away again and I will.

  • Critiques please and I need a name for this poem. Can someone help?

    Old prospector

    touch starved,

    carved by a life lonely

    courageous.

    Lowly, slowly,

    methodical experience

    indulgent of

    long expeditions

    through sand, over stone ledges,

    shrub and bog

    diverting thought.

    Seventy lonely

    years with only the aching

    desire for expression, for contact

    for human touch

    reduced to improvisation,

    art on a rock,

    tacit knowledge,

    graffiti facet,

    stone faced,

    chiselled,

    dreamed.

    died

    fossilized,

    .

  • I am looking for critiques of this poem. Can any one tell me where the mistakes are?

    Bomb

    Sad

    broad valley

    lay

    between us.

    Listless, brooding

    vague and misty.

    Warm distant vistas

    faint and fading

    We leave behind

    An edge of

    indecision.

    possibility

    Snow in

    morning’s eye

    Ahead.

    Ashes. © pat Ramsden

  • What do you think of my new poem.?.?

    Rock Solid Certain

    A trapped dead soul glitters;

    sealed carbon memory.

    Hard, mute and motionless,

    never again

swollen and pulsing with seething sap.

The tree, the leaf, the organic body fused.

I might weep for the mountain,

the rock, the diamond, for the idea of them

but, no, my mind and the mountain sustain each other.

    My mind climbs the mountain,

stands on its summit reading the words

inscribed there by wind and rain and time.

    "We are one.

I will make of you a diamond.

    Look inside

    and find enlightenment,

    a certainty, a solid solace."

  • do plants and other animals depend on mankind for their existance?

I am having trouble getting an answer to this question. ..I suspect without mankind the planet would continue to support life without us... but without other animals we would cease to exist.. Plants must be pollinated and fertilized and are very dependant upon those animals for thier existance and therefore we would be without any food supply eventually. nothing depends on mankind . .. Am I wrong?

  • is this poem too presumptuous or arrogant or am I being hard on myself?

    “Sea of Galilee.”

Waters that cleansed the Son of Man

    falls on my hand

    the rhythm of the rain

flows in the blood of my veins

    I am the river

I fill and feed the saltine Sea

And the infant at its mothers breast

    is nourished from Galilee.

  • can someone tell me about this poem?

    Farewell

    earth words

I speak to you in earth words, now

but tomorrow I am not but spirit as you too will be

    one day

and talk is redundant, after all is said,

for spirits only talk to spirits

and spirits have no use for words.

I will miss the us that we have never been

    or been

but look forward to the sound of wind sigh we will make

upon the surface of a lake ,

the silent splendor of our sculptured hills

    mountains

and the sparkle of our dew upon the our grass,

and our frost on our glass.

  • I believe this... do you? Just a little wimsical fun for the day. comments welcome?

    The Thinking Toad

We strive for intellect and thoughtfulness

    wisdom, brain and wit

and it's sad that some don't know the half of it.

The torment of ignorance is the lightest load.

Consider the agony of the thinking toad,

    or the jersey cow?

    she’d shrink in discontent,

    her udder’s dry!

if she knew she feeds the criminal, the hypocrite,

    she’d cry.

    and…

There’d be anguish in the minds of mourning hens

if they knew and understood their chicks

    deep fried for men.

that lazy house pet, dog or cat

would weep a woeful tear of two ... or laugh in great guffaws

    if it considered

the importance of what men do. © pat Ramsden

  • how do you tell if a man is straight or gay without asking him?

this is not a trick question.. there is no punch line.. I would like to know if there are decisive indicators which would head off potential embarrassments and intentioned insults. A mans gender and sexual persuasion is his own business unless he is philandering on both sides of the street. I think.

  • This is one I would like to get advice, opinions or remarks on: it was written for children?

Laura is a sour girl from eating green limes and lemons

Linda is a sour girl from living too long with Laura

Lilly is a happy girl, she lives alone

And eats sweet corn and melons.

  • about contemporary children's poetry, I notice there is not much of it.Does anyone know why?

I have been working with young teens for about 4 years now in developing countries and some of the stuff is pretty lame. Where can I find good examples of verse, free verse or even short poetic prose or works that will appeal to their tastes and experience ? Children's humour seems to be especially hard to find.

  • maybe a little fun... to lighten the mood?

    I really think I don"t..

I do not like in-depth research.

    Its ephemeral, meaningless, next week

    And anyway …

    The messenger‘s always in masquerade

They are really just a bunch of naked guys

    with clothes on.

The world is all teak and tile

Scandinavian wall hangings or iron irons

    Decoupage and hodgepodge

Everyone is pinning pins or gluing glue

Sanity made insane by market demands

I like leisure hours under mosquito netting ,

    cats and golden retrievers

I like Jamaican grottos, warm brown beaches

    Guyana, Mexico,

chickens in the kitchen and ducks

    and seawalls.. Rrrrrum!
