I think if one has had a friend for many years, their suspect is usually right, by observation and life

choices of interest. I grew up with such as a lifetime neighbor and close friend, he has never said, I

have never asked, as which ever it does not interfere with my personal life, so it's not my business

unless he wants it to be..........have a niece who is, and it shows without a doubt. Knew a fella in high school too, it showed w/o a doubt.

And then there was Rock Hudson of the screen, who teens swooned over and adored!

Casually drop a few questions in about his 'partner' - that could eventually lead to something.

the only real way is to ask him or someone who knows him well enough to know for sure if he's gay. though even if you ask his friends they might not tell you because "outing" people is, like, so wrong.

Talk about things like relationships, lovers, sex, etc, and see what he reveals on his own accord. Other than that, watch him and see who he glances at now and then.

Careful with your answers everybody! Don't want to step into the stereotypes.

give him an undergear catalog and see what his reaction is, if he says these guys and the underwear are gay then he is straight, if he says wow these guys and the underwear are hot then he is gay

The way a man stands can often give him away. Also his way of talking. All the gay men I know talk quite quickly, and structure their sentences more like a young woman would.

Why the reticence to getting to know someone?

If they wanted you to know they were gay they would have told you.
