If there is no afterlife/God is it ok for people to follow ideas and ways, to make their life have meaning?

Atheists if nature and life is as cold and harsh as it is,isn't it ok for people to believe in something that will give them comfort and meaning, instead of the reality of nothingness when we all die?

If there is nothing awaiting after death, can't people keep hope in their ideas?

or should they just deal with it.

I tend to agree, religion serves a few purposes. While not for everyone, it can bring depth & meaning, and hope to people's lives. The problem lies in the way so many people take it too far. When they rely on ancient texts that teach them bigotry or hate, or when their spirituality teaches them to not participate in the world.

Your best case scenario is a person who uses their belief in god to enrich their life & give their inner world a bit more depth.

The worst case scenario would be either a terrorist... or- for a more common & nearby scenario- (there's probably more than one in your town like this-) A home-schooled Christian gay kid, growing up isolated, hating himself & confused. This example, or different variations of this example are actually a common tragedy.

    So, it really depends.

Accept that you're the same decaying matter as everything else and leave the ego at the door... you're NOT special. That way you can start living your life and not worry about some imaginary sky daddy.

They should embrace the reality of the universe, and find their own meaning for their life.

To consider that all of this beauty is caused by relatively simple mathematical laws, is beautiful in itself.

The problem is they dont know God is real and that He adds a richness to the lives of those who believe. If only they were honest with themselves, they would find that there is an emptiness in their lives that only the One who created them can fill

If you would rather believe in some comforting non-sense than accept reality, I suppose I can't stop you. I can mock you, though.

JFC! Our lives are not cold and harsh. I have comfort and meaning in my life. I have hope! I'm glad that nothingness happens when I die! Just like before I was born, I won't know anyway! These are more lies that you are telling. It's ignorant and offensive. You just ASSUME that our lives are that way because you can't imagine life without your fake "god-crutch".

    They should keep their ideas,

but not try and push them in other peoples faces

or go around speaking as if they are facts.

    Keep your stuff to yourself.

Why would you need to ask permission for something like that? Believe what you want to believe, it's nobody's business but your own.

    Alternatively: Suck it up, Buttercup.

They should keep their ideas even if they are not real. For example if my wife is ugly, I keep myself on drugs that give me hallucinations that she is sexy

If there was no God, there would be no meaning for anything.
