Which name for my baby girl (interesting mixture..)?
Hello! My name is Misa and my husband and I are expecting a baby (due in August). We have come across many beautiful names, and have narrowed them down to a (MUCH) shorter list. This baby will be of an interesting ethnic mixture as I'm Japanese and my husband is half black and half white, so it's important to us to find a name that would match her interesting look and will be beautiful in both English and Japanese.
The candidates, in alphabetical order:
(*note: not all the pronunciations are perfectly correct in Japanese, but this is how they would be pronounced in English)
-Akira (ah-KEE-ruh)
-Amaya (ah-MY-uh)
-Emi (EH-mee)
-Kaiya (like the name Kaia- KY-uh)
-Kana (please help with pron.!! Do you prefer the English pronunciation kay-nuh or kaw-nuh, with the first 'a' pronounced like in the word 'father'?)
-Kata (same problem with this one! ^^)
-Sora (like Sarah but a "so" instead of a "sa". My husband is doubtful of this one, but I love it! It means "sky")
-Tomi (with this one the situation is opposite: my husband says yes, but I'm unsure. Pronounced like TOE-mee, means "rich". I'm just worried that it would be confused with Tommy).
So, which one (or ones) do you vote for? Akira, Amaya, Emi, Kaiya, Kana, Kata, Sora or Tomi?
Right now at the top of our list are Emi, then Amaya, then Kaiya, then Akira.
Thanks everyone!

Personally I would go for Emi short for Emilia... the ethnic mix, English and Japanese rolled into one, two very pretty names.
Kaia without the "y" would be lovely. With the Y is ok, but seems unnecessary.
I vote no on Tomi because it will be mispronounced
Akira reminds me too much of Akita which is a Japanese breed of dog.
Amaya is pretty.
Kana - doesn't sound like a name in English no matter how you pronounce it.
Kata - is the brand name of the manufacturer of eyeglasses in Japan. Kind of like naming your daughter Oakley or Ray Ban.
Sora is ok but not as pretty in English, sounds like "sorer" as in "more sore"

.McKinleey Faith - It has a nice ring to it 8/10 .Marleigh Elisabeth - I like Elisabeth, HATE Marleigh 3/10 .Sadie Kristine - Sadie is really cute, not a fan of Kristine 5/10 .Payton Mariee - LOVE Payton, impartial to Mariee, the spelling is nice though 6/10 .Karsynn Savannah - Don't like either, Savannah is my name and people always have trouble with it 1/10 .Autumn Mariee - I hate names that are things and places or seasons 1/10 .Capri Elisabeth - Capri is a drink, don't name your baby after it 1/10 .Laineey Rae - Super adorable, has a nice ring and flows well, however, not sure about Laineey as a first name 7/10 .Caroline Jo - Just no 0/10 .Madison Grace - This is pretty, will age well, have you considered Madeline? 8/10 .Karter Elaine - LOVE THIS NAME 9/10 .Ryleigh Samantha - Ryleigh is nice, I don't like Samantha, too common 5/10 .Carleigh Felicity - This doesn't flow at all and both names are terrible 0/10 .Haiden Janeen - Terrible name 0/10 .Dylin Savannah - I like Dylin, hate Savannah 4/10 .Anabella Marie - Anabella is nice, don't like Marie, but it flows well together, not so much with Cassidy though. 5/10 .Aubrey Patrica - Aubrey is pretty and ages really well, Patrica is hideous. 5/10 .Harleigh Jane - A Harley is a motorbike, which is a thing, hate this name 0/10 In my opinion, Marie rhymes with Cassidy to much so as a middle name it sounds kind of weird. Using the names you have, these are some mixtures I would try: . Sadie Grace . Madison Rae . Aubrey Faith . Anabella Faith . Sadie Elisabeth Good luck :)

I reeeeally don't like Sora, Tomi or Akira.
My favourite is Emi, but maybe you could "officially" call her Emma, but then call her Emi..... if that makes sense :P That way if she doesn't like having a "different" name she can have the more traditional Emma. It's nice having a few choices for yourself (I'm Alexandra, but I don't like Alexandra, Lexie, or Alex, to most people I'm known as Ali with the exception of teachers and people I don't know very well).
I don't mind Kata, same thing as Emi though, maybe you could officially call her Kate?

I like all of them. A suggestion for Tomi though, I would put an H in there to make it pronounced Toh-mi. I really like Emi and Amaya.

I love all of your names so its hard to choose, I will go with Tomi or Sora, both names are really cool and cute. Maybe you could go with both, one as the first name and the other as the middle name.
Whit the pron on Kana I prefer kaw-nuh.

It sounds to me like you're going to have a gorgeous baby, the little miracle you're expecting. I like Amaya, Kata (pronounced caw-tuh) and Tomi.

I agree with you. My favorite is Emi. I also do like Tomi but maybe you can spell it different so people wont be so confused like toemi? Toami?
