My dad accidentally claimed me as a dependant (when i'm not), but already filed. Can he fix it???!!!!?

I'm 19 years old, work a decent job, etc. Still live at home with my parents.

My dad accidentally claimed me as a dependent on his (and my moms) taxes, when i'm not. He has already filed his taxes, but i havent (and deadline is midnight tomorrow!!!!)

Will he be able to change it????

If not, i'll have to file as a dependant, and i will owe state and federal together about $600, instead of getting a refund of about $400.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

He'll have to ammend his return. 1040x and change that. those forms have to be mailed in. You will claim yourself but cannot efile bc it will be rejected since he already claimed you. so you both mail these forms in, him undoing you as dependent and you claiming yourself. it will take a while longer but will work out if you do it like this.

provided which you're an entire time pupil or have been for no less than 5 months of the year. in any different case, no. the only way a determine can declare a baby over 18 as a based is that in the event that they're an entire time pupil or in the event that they earn decrease than $3750 for the year. That "age 26" factor is an factor to the hot regulation for wearing a baby on your scientific coverage. It has no longer something to do with income taxes. and you ought to no longer say "if" you document taxes next year. With the quantity of money you made, you will be able to desire to document taxes next year. it may be unlawful to no longer.

The EASIEST way for you to do this is to have your dad pay you the thousand bucks when he gets his refund. When did you turn 19? If you were 18 on 12/31/09 then he could still claim you.

He can fix it by filing an amendment, but that'll take longer than a day. Mail in your return, claiming yourself, and dad should amend his.
