Tricks for getting mold smell out of handbag? (Louis Vuitton)?

I've tried a few different things, febreez, febreez for mold, cleaning it with baby whips daily, leaving it in the sun for a while, stuffing it with newspaper. I got it on ebay and apparently it was kept in storage for 10 years and looks great but smells horrible!

Try taking an old thin sock and filling it with kitty litter. Tie the end of the sock shut and put the sock in your bag for a few days. The kitty litter should help absorb the odor. Also works well for old stinky shoes!

Just use a leather cleaner. Or take it to the cleaners.

It may take a few cleans but after it airs out it will be fine. The problem is the mold that is causing the smell. If you use baking soda or perfume it will return because the mold is still on the leather. Dont boil it that will damage the leather and the bag will shrink. You never want leather to get wet it is never the same. You need to clean the mold out.

Dont use lysol or those cleaners people mentioned with chemicals that will ruin the leather. Also the oil and alcohol in perfume will stain and dry out the leather. Becareful with leaving it in the sun that will damage the color and dry out the leather. Just take it to the cleaners.

The only advice I can give you after reading your precautions is to place it in the sun for a more than a day.The smell of mold is probably due to the presence of the enzymes etc. released by the mold during it's life time which might have penetrated into the deeper layers of the bag. Thus you are able to wash away only the superficial layer. You can place it in hot boiling water for 1-1.5 hours or if you think the bag material is sensitive then place it in the sun for 1 or more days.Never use scent or air fresheners as that would aggravate the stench!!

You can try lysol spray. Or try sprinkling the baking soda directly into the bag fir a day, then brushing it out good.
