First, ask your wedding venue if they have preferred caterers. Some venues will not allow caterers other than their preferred caterers. Ask the venue when the caterer can set up and when the caterer has to be out. Then, ask your caterer if they can adhere to those times. Let your caterer know what types of food you are thinking about. Are you having a full meal with appetizers beforehand? Etc. Then, ask the caterer what the price per head is for your selections. If it is too high, ask them to give you other suggestions to bring your costs down. Also, some caterers will supply linens not only for their tables but for the venue. You can ask about that. Some caterers will provide decorations for their food tables. let them know what you are using for the rest of the room and ask if they have items that will coordinate. They will provide you with an estimate first, so that you can review before signing the final contract. Also, ask them to see pictures and for at least two references for events comparable to yours. Also, ask the caterer what type of kitchen equipment they need and make sure your venue has that equipment. Will they need a freezer, a warming oven, etc. Also, will they need electrical outlets.

    See if they have packages

Ask if they make the food day of or the night before and re-heat everything

Ask if they make extra plates for unexpected guests

Ask if you can swap items to make the menus cheaper

Ask if they are familiar with the venue that you are using

Ask if they provide cutlery or plates

Ask how much of their business is weddings? or how many weddings they've done.

Ask if they have a cheaper option for children?

Ask if a vegetarian option is included.
