It's called sleep paralysis, it happens to almost everyone at least once in their life.
During REM sleep, when you dream, your body is paralyzed so you don't sleepwalk. Sleeping is a very active time for your brain, it's working intensely, and sometimes it can happen that it keeps doing that after you wake up. Hallucinations and fear are normal during these occurrences.

When you sleep, your brain produces a chemical to keep you still while you sleep - otherwise you'd act out your dreams. Sometimes when you wake suddenly, the chemical is still active. It wears off pretty quickly, but it can be quite scary. Vivid hallucinations of being pinned down are very common during this time, as the brain is still in dream mode, even though you feel wide awake.
Don't worry - it's pretty common. I can't remember the name of it though.

When you are in in deep sleep your mind actually disconnects from your body. You become paralyzed during deep sleep. Except for your big toe. That is the only part of the body you can move until your mind reconnects with your body. That is why you felt paralyzed but were awake.
Did you get woken up during deep sleep?

Lol, no spirits or demons here.
While sleeping your body shuts down, if you suddenly wake up, your body needs to activate itself, giving the feeling that you are "out of yourself" or -in your case- pinned down.
Don't worry, you're fine
