How do you copy text from PDF into Microsoft Word with minimum reformatting?

Every time I try to copy something from PDF into Word I just do the Copy & Paste thing but it always looks like this (for example):

The “story” of a ballad can be a wide range of subjects but

frequently deals with folklore or popular legends. They are written in a straight-forward

manner, seldom with detail, but always with graphic simplicity and force. Most ballads are

suitable for singing: “Barbara Allen” is an example.

So at the end of every line I have to click backspace and then space again. During long texts it gets really annoying.

Is there any way to prevent this? Or another way of copying?

(I've tried copying text into notepad and wordpad then pasting it onto Word and it doesn't work either way).

Update:

Whitak3r: How or where do I get a text converting programme? Is it free or does it cost? Thanks.
