Why do people tend to mistake kindness for weakness or stupidity?

My city isn't all that nice or generous. There are a handful of people that are like me. Why do MOST of the other people mistake my kindness for weakness? I don't take it either. I go off on people like that. I was just honestly wondering what all of you thought. Please and Thank You!

    Not merely weakness or stupidity, but users will try to pounce on you for being kind, try to incorporate you into their support system.
