I'd like to spray paint my oven door (wall oven) -- has anybody tried this?
Do I need to use primer? If so, what kind? Can I use Rustoleum barbecue paint (black)? Thanks for your help. Oven door is not scratched up, just horrible color.

most oven doors are finished with a baked on enamel or porcelain finish which is extremely difficult to cover. To add another layer of paint you would first need to scratch up the original finish with something like sandpaper or steel wool so there would be no going back. The paint you would need to use may be something like an epoxy or a special appliance epoxy that is durable enough and temperature resistant enough to last without peeling off. I would suggest you not try it yourself but contact a professional.

Yes you can use rustoleum barbecue paint. Use a gloss black or simi-gloss black for the best looking finish. You do not need to prime it, but you will need to dull the existing paint by sanding it lightly with fine grit sandpaper (220 grit). The sanding will make the new paint stick better and keep it from peeling off later. You may not end up with a finish that looks as good as a new oven, but it maybe a big improvement if you have an old oven with an ugly color.

You need to use an appliance epoxy paint.

Just don't spray the interior.
