Buying a new TV, what should I get, LCD or plasma?

Just looking for a new TV, finally getting up to HD. Should I be getting a LCD or a plasma screen? I'm trying to get something around 42" if that matters.

Getting LCD is the better choice. Now, I won't let you go without knowing why, Plasma Televisions have this liquid like substance behind the screen, hence the "plasma"in the name from Cytoplasm in the human cell (luquid as well). over a long period of time 10-15years, it doesnt get ruined but the picture kind of fades to lower quiality. ive had a plasma and ive noticed this.

Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs along with the pro and con od Plasma and LCD/LED tvs. You will notice that Panasonic Plasma is recommended in each price category of entry level to the high end. While Samsung, Sony and Toshiba (the other top brands) does not (April issue). Other brands like LG, Sharp, Sanyo and Vizio (the next top brands) did not even get mentioned. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tv problems are from LCD/LED tvs and 95% of those are off brands. You get what you pay for. My first Plasma tv purchased in 2002 is still running strong and have had no problem. While my first LCD tv purchased in December of 2006 burned out in June of 2008. Plasma is also less expensive that the LCD/LED tvs. The Panasonic 42' G model tv are THX certified (higher quality in video), you can read the comparison on July issued. It was compared to a Sony, Toshiba, LG and Vizio LCD tvs and was the top pick. Hope this will help you out.
