Front load vs Top load washing machines HELP!!!!?
I have NEVER owned or operated a front load washing machine I have always had a top loader, my old top loader decided to commit suicide last week and we are currently moving. It now appears that I will have to stack my washing machine and dryer (or maybe wall mount the dryer) as the laundry has less space than my current house. So it looks like I may have to replace my washing machine with a front loader so I can stack if I choose not to wall-mount.
So I want to know what it's like using a front loader compared to a top loader, whether it's worth my while to get one with at Least a 1000 rpm spin feature, how easy they are to keep clean, how they wash clothes and any other tips both positive and negative would be very highly regarded. Also, if anyone can recommend a brand too, I am currently looking at a Samsung brand and a Simpson brand please don't recommend Bosch or Miele, they are too expensive I am looking for something that is affordable but not nasty.

My front loader is gentler to my clothes, uses less detergent than a top loader, is quieter, cleans clothes much better, uses less water, HE models pay for themselves in 4 yrs. I make sure that when I am done laundry for the day that I dry the inside of the door and the door seal. I have never had an odour problem with my washer. I am so glad I purchased a front loader machine.

All front loaders require more maintenance than your top loader did. First off you must use HE laundry detergent. Liquid preferred. There is a door boot on all front loaders. This is the rubber seal between the basket and door. It must be cleaned once you are done with laundry for the day and checked after every load for items captured there such as socks. Leave door open when not in use to prevent a moldy smell from starting in your machine. Also you have to check ALL pockets for items that can punch a hole in the door boot such as pencils and other items including broaches or items that are pinned on. Nothing but clothes in mach and you need to sort them. Put jeans with jeans and towels with towels. Don't mix them. You can't wash just one item either in a front loader. It just won't do it properly. As for 1000 rpm spin cycle that pretty much covers all front loaders. A good machine is the Whirlpool Duet series. They are stackable and are pretty reliable. All front loaders will have problems eventually but then again so do cars and ppl. There are no machine specific problems with any one front loader. Make sure your floor is solid enough to hold the front loader also. They are heavier than that top loader. A ventless dryer is good also for stackable situations where access to the rear of machine is limited. These dryers use a built in condenser to remove water from the exhaust air and drains it into your washer drain. Go online and research any machine before you buy it. Read customer reviews. If a machine is problematic they will tell you.

I know you said you never had a front loader, but have you used any at a laundromat? The laundromat where I go when my washer is on the fritz or when I have a lot of extra laundry has both top loaders and front loaders, so I've used both. Top loaders may have slightly lower load limits, but they're easier to use and repair. Front loaders have slightly larger capacities, but you really should wipe them down. If they break down during the wash, they are messier, but that's about it as far as I know. Check the literature from several brands and do a pro and con comparison, then decide based on your needs. After all, it's your dirty laundry we're talking about in public. jk Seriously, you may also want to find out about service and delivery, so your life becomes a little easier if the new one would need work.

Since the cost of water is so high, we have only purchased the water-savers. They do a good job of cleaning our laundry. CARE OF FRONT LOADERS: Read & follow instructions. With the Maytag Neptune, that was very important. We now have a Fridgidaire which is much simpler (and cheaper). We never overload our washing machines and periodically we run a load of whites (towels, etc) with bleach and since the doors seal tightly when closed, we leave the door ajar after use and we have never had any problem with mold in our machines. You can interrupt a wash but must wait until the door unlock button clicks before pulling the door open. When you finish doing whatever adjustment you need, then you push the control to resume your wash. (The little water that comes out & drips on the front of the machine & floor when you retrieve your garment during an interrupted cycle, you can easily solve by wiping it away after you have closed your door.) AFTER SAD EXPERIENCE: It isn't worth the expense of damaging your own machines by stuffing and overloading it. With scatter rugs and other large or bulky items (true even when we had top loaders) we always take to the laundromat and put it in their large front loaders. Also we feel the larger machines is more appropriate for those things. Recommend the water savers. Whatever you decide, it's sure nice to have your own laundry equipment.

Front loaders can be very noisy, are not recommended for 2nd levels and tend to mold. There are some top loaders on the market which offer the same water conservation and spin cycles. I purchased a Fisher paykel and love it. Price is affordable and warranty was more than many brands. Definetly worth looking at.

Front loader Try Frigidaire. The front loader is quieter, uses less water and detergent, does not mangle clothing and does a better job over all of cleaning clothes. You should run a cup of white vinegar through the rinse when doing whites. This prevent soap scum buildup in the gasket which can lead to a foul smell.
