yes, it should be when you want to break it down like down.

people from the united states have wrapped their minds

around that quote for so long that it sounds right to them.

it would be okay if they were talking about all of america

and its countries but they're not...

The United States is the only country in both continents that uses the word America in its name We call our great nation "The United States of America". When referring to both continents it would be proper to say "God Bless the Americas".

Because out off all the countries in the Americas we are the only country with the word America in it's name.

nicely Esther if u . s . is so blessed then why is the economy falling. u . s . remains sending money to the state of Israel and we are nevertheless sinking into deeper and deeper recession; heading right into a border line hyper-inflation So how can this be? If u . s . is continually status up for Israel and going to bat for Israel and sending billions to them then how is it that u . s . is contained in the more serious structure ever and could basically get worser and worser. something isn't proper?

We are the United States of America, and "America" has long been a short-hand way of referring to our country, despite the fact that everyone knows we are not the only country in the Americas.

Even foreigners do this: they call the U.S. "America" and refer to our citizens as "Americans." Read any foreign newspaper to confirm this.

The practice is too old and common to be altered now.

I'm going to start calling Canadians, Mexicans, and people from all of South America "Americans" too.

After all for them "Asians" = East Asians (Chinese, Japanese, Korean and some). Never mind that Asia is about ten times bigger.

It's the "United States of AMERICA". How hard can it be to understand for people.

Technically, yes. But colloquially when people say "America" it is thought of as the U S A. I'm sure you knew that so I don't know why you bothered to ask this inane question.
