Who knows what 1/2 : 2 = 1/3 : X is?

(0.5*2)/(1/3)=x
1/(1/3)=x
x=3

It seems like it should be 3, but it is not. These are ratios, not "__ is to__ as __ is to __" statements.
1/2 : 2 can be simplified to 1 : 4
1/3 : (1/3 * 4)
1/3 : 4/3
x = 4/3
Source(s): I would almost guess that the assignment or whatever is fishing for the answer x = 3, though.
