why does my computer screen turn black if i look at it with my polarized sunglasses on?

if i look at it straight on, its clear, if i cock my head to the left, it all turns black...but not if i turn my head right. i dont get it.

    This is because your monitor is made using LCD technology. The same thing happens with many digital watches as they have LCD displays.

    The best explanation I have heard for polarized sunglasses is to imagine them being covered with lines going across the front. Light travels in waves, and any light waves which are not traveling parallel to those lines gets blocked by those lines.

    LCD displays are polarized, too. If you turn your sunglasses so that the "lines" on them are perpendicular to the lines on the display, no light can get through because the light waves are blocked no matter which way they are going. Thus, you see black.
