How can people be so heartless?

Homeless 'Hero' Ignored While Dying on NYC Street

Hugo Alfredo Tale-Yax had jumped to the aid of a woman attacked on 144th Street at 88th Road in the borough of Queens last Sunday, and was stabbed several times in the chest and collapsed as he chased his assailant.

A heroic homeless man, stabbed after saving a Queens woman from a knife-wielding attacker, lay dying in a pool of blood for more than an hour as nearly 25 people indifferently strolled past him, a shocking surveillance video obtained by the New York Post reveals.

Some of the passers-by paused to stare at Hugo Alfredo Tale-Yax last Sunday morning and others leaned down to look at his face.

He had jumped to the aid of a woman attacked on 144th Street at 88th Road in Jamaica, Queens, at 5:40 a.m., was stabbed several times in the chest and collapsed as he chased his assailant.

In the wake of the bloodshed, a man came out of a nearby building and chillingly took a cellphone photo of the victim before leaving. And in several instances, pairs of people gawked at Tale-Yax without doing anything.

Later, another man stopped, leaned over and vigorously shook Tale-Yax’s body. After lifting the victim’s head and body to reveal a pool of blood, he also walked off.

Not until some 15 minutes after he was shaken by the pedestrian -- more than an hour and 20 minutes after the victim collapsed -- did firefighters finally arrive and discover that Tale-Yax, 31, had died.

Firefighters were responding to a 911 call of a non-life-threatening injury at 7:23 a.m. when they found his body.

That is simply shocking that someone couldn't have phoned the emergency services anonymously even. This man showed more courage in saving a woman than all of the New Yorkers put together. This wouldn't have happened here in Scotland i'm glad to say, the guy would have got help asap and his life could've been saved.

There is so much violence in society that people are numbed to it. It has become more common place for these acts of brutality to occur, therefore people are no longer shocked or react to it like they would have in days gone by.

It is pretty pathetic that people would just walk by and ignore a bleeding person. I don't know what is worse, the man who did the stabbing or the people who casually walked by and did nothing. Particularly the man who used his phone to take a photo instead of calling 911 for a medic. That man died in vane, what a pity.

When I hear things like this and realize that I share this world with those inconsiderate individuals who do not protect society's best interests, I am embarrassed to be part of the human race. To think that my fellow man would not help a dying person in the street is sickening.

No fiber in my being would allow me to pass by a person in need without lending a helping hand. I do not care if I was late for my own wedding or my child's funeral, I would stop and help.

Honey, I'm with you on this one. I could never walk by any hurting soul and not lend a helping hand or call someone that would. Is this an example of what our world has become? I got to visit New York City for the first time in December. I live in Texas. As we were walking out of Grand Central Station I saw this little homeless lady sitting hunkered down in the corner at the front door. I walked out on the street and stopped and dug in my purse to find her some money. I ran back and stood in front of her and I said,"Ma-am this is for you," and I touched her face. I told her Merry Christmas and she smiled the sweetest smile. I was more blessed than her. I always watch like the Bible says because you never know when you may be entertaining angels unaware.

Wow! Someone could have at least dialed 911.

However, even in the most beautiful parts of the U.S. rotten things happen. In Montana, a woman was beaten and robbed in a small convenience store. Other patrons just walked by her, even stepping around her, and did nothing. Eventually somebody helped her.

I'm sorry I can't get you the store video, but my source for this incident is credible.

I think it safe to say, if we had, or are experiencing being beaten or stabbed and left for dead, we would want help from someone.

That's how it is in large cities. People learn how to ignore others when they are on the streets. If this happened in a small town you can be sure someone would have come to his aide. Also he was a homeless man and most people in the big cities don't even consider them people. I used to live in Seattle and I am not surprised by this at all. It is indeed sad.

wow that's pretty messed up. it sort reminds me of that story where like 20 people watched this girl being raped and no one did anything. or when this boy was standing on the edge of a building and a crowd gathered and started shouting "jump" then when he did they took pictures with their phones. or this story where 3 boys from Russia killed like 20 homeless people in a span of a few months, someone linked me to the story it was awful and their was a video attached i didn't watch it, but they had the transcripts of what the boys did and said it and reading alone made me nauseous. it seems to me that some people just lack humanity.

    1. Because people do not want to get involved.

    2. Because people are afraid to be forced to testify in court in which you may be killed by the killer's gang or family.

    3. Because of police harassment. Every time you report a crime, you are subject to police interrogation and harassment, thinking that you are the one who commit the crime. Ever heard that if you report the murder of your spouse to the police, you would become an instant suspect if you don't behave exactly they expect you to behave.

Agreed. In fact, I just posted a question like this. I cannot believe those people. Each and everyone of them should be held accountable, period. Maybe not murder, but something serious.

I agree, I use to live in new york. I grow up in the bronx and then lived in brooklyn. people seem to look the other way instead of helping you. it is the sign of the times, also many people are afraid to help because they can get killed also. please read second timothy chapter three verses 1-5
