How do we allow construction of oil wells off our coast without automatic isolation capability?

Really? We have hundreds of oil platforms in the Gulf Of Mexico that have no automatic isolation capability in case of a catastrophe like the one that happened last week?

And we are going to let these geniuses "drill baby drill" off the coasts of Virginia, N. & S. Carolina, Georgia and Florida? Heck, we won't need tankers or pipelines to bring in the oil, we can just skim it off the beaches every morning.

Because in America, oil companies still don't accurately valuate the cost such a disaster would have on their own drilling operations, let alone the environment.
